^^^^ that's interesting to know about the steering? I'll say to my dad about it, but he only does about 5k miles a year and due to being disabled his days of spirited driving are long gone.

Thing i will add about the ride quality of the MV6 estates, is they are sensitive to tyre stiffness, e.g. cheap brand hard walled tyres make the ride very jittery compared to premium brand tyres.
Also someone else mentioned they couldn't get the 3.2 above 27mpg? exact same as my dad's he's never really bettered it? he once tried super unleaded in it (i think it was shell?) anyway the car ran like a dog on it? it hated it. So never again. bog standard 95 ron all the way. lol
I would be happy with the 27 in a large 3.2 auto car. Without looking at any claimed manufacutures specs surely thats fine?

Yeah, but compared to the 39 I could get out of the 24v 3.0 Senator it replaced, it was pretty poor!

You and I both know that you'll get called on that despite the fact that it could be easily achieved at legal/sensible M-way speeds

Years ago my dad had a 1994 2.5 CD Auto with a few extras. He loved it (I'm spotting a theme here, it's a real Dad's car..).

It was reliable and great for cruising with. He much preferred it to the 1991 BMW 520i he had previously.

Just checked on DVLA and looks like it's long dead. Pity...

The vehicle details for L985 PNO are:
Date of Liability 29 08 2003
Date of First Registration 22 04 1994
Year of Manufacture 1994
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2498cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed

Absolutely cracking car and went like a hoofing great go-kart. Thirsty bugger thoguh, I don't think I could get any more than 27MPG out of it no matter how gently I treated the throttle!

I miss it.
That is one cool looking car !

Omega V6 estate, pre-facelift - to my eyes it still looks contemporary.

Its bootspace is also the undefeated champion of the world - incredible space, albeit at the expense of the back seat passengers.

Thank you very much but it's actually a facelift model. It also has Irmscher front bumper/splitter, skirts and grille and a set of Azev 'A' 17" rims with the same offset as Lotus Carlton wheels.

And in all fairness, the bootspace champion of the world accolade actually goes to the Carlton it replaced but it's not far off the mark.

Did this happen on kickdown by any chance? Same happened to mine at a similar speed. I s"%t myself. It didn't blow as bad as that it was just trailing packing that looked like horse hair out of it for the next fortnight before all the packing had gone

yer i was in fourth doing about 70-80 and heading up a fairly steep hill so floored it, auto kicked down to third and BANG, then powerloss, rev limitter cut in and i took my foot straight off the loud pedal completely. Then pressed it gentley again after speed had dropped to 50ish and car was fine, except the obvious louder engine note!

The car shoke a little when it happened and the stereo was on very loud and i still heard the massive bang when it let go! quite extreme for a back box really.

I've had an ex police 04 reg Omega 3.2 special estate for the past 2 years.

Bought it to tow my racer around which it does with aplomb although quite thirsty.Plenty of room for spares and even floorboards and doors which I often carry around for work. Must be one of, if not the biggest load carriers around.

When not towing, performance is amazing for such a big car. Full throttle in second, third and fourth is push in the back stuff and it really starts to come on the cam (old fashioned phrase!) at 4000 rpm.

When pootling the whole car is deceptively quiet and understressed.Hard to tell if the engine is running when idling. In fact I think that engine is very under rated. Surprised it wasn't picked up by some of the smaller mfrs.

Difficult to know what to replace it with. Any sensibly priced suggestions?

V70's do not tow anywhere near as well as a good Omega.

I went from an Omega 2.5 to a V70 T5 which turned out to be to soft at the rear and not very good brakes, so I sold the V70 went back to an Omega V6 3.0 with self leveling rear, fantastic tow car.
The V70 was a bit of a let down for towing.

They have a 'thing' on them called 'multi-ram'. It varies the effective length of the inlet tract depending on how mwny RPM the engine's doing.

The old Senators had dual-ram which was two modes operated by one valve which changed stae at 4k, but the V6 Omegas have three modes operated by two valves. One changes state at 1200 RPM but 4K is when the final mode actuates and will be the 'on cam' experience you're getting.
