On the video of Walter - from 0:17 - see how fast the revs rise, that is impressive (or maybe it's all wheelspin?).

The Porsche steering wheel gear change is the better system by a country mile, drive a PDK across Europe and the Porsche system is more practical, more accessible and safer.

On the track and only on the track is the other system marginally better and that is only due to size and even then the other system falls on really twisty tracks.

If I bought a Ferrari or Lamborghini then I'd try very hard to have them come from the factory with the Porsche standard buttons.

Out of interest why do you prefer the PDK layout? Just curious as I've never tried one.

And I would get a manual gearbox (if such a thing were available...)

Tried both types for the first time ever in the same car and the standard system is far superior if you are driving every day, the gear change can be made with either hand so there is increased ability to 'busy' with the wheel and change gear, indicate, flash or adjust something and change gear with the free hand.

The Paddles are single function on either side so changing down or up may not be done at exactly the right time as events on the road cause you to be busy with the relevent hand.

The paddles are not right, the PDK system as standard is perfect.

It is also a more relaxed system for cruising as if just pootling around enjoying the scenary you can do all you need with one hand.

Just think about if we had manuals with one gear lever on the right for up-changes and one on the left for down-changes.

The paddles are as insane as that, but just a bit closer at hand.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who has driven the two systems and 'decries' the PDK switches is a driver whose judgement is seriously in question.

One day they will make one of these cars as good as the computer game, they are getting there with the fake sound but not yet.

Fake sound, weight of a whale, cooked brakes...

5mm wheel spacers.

Why doesn't the £90,000 include wheels with the right offset?
Indeed. I thought wheel spacers went out in the eighties! Very poor show... did they get them from Halfords?

These cars are truly awful. How did they manage to make it look so fowl. It's like a special needs school NVQ photoshop project.

Purely subjective. In the flesh, i think they look fine.

When it comes to car styling, I am puzzled by people's opinions. Every day our eyes are assaulted by cars such as ANY modern Peugeot, the new 1 series BMW, Vauxhall Insignia etc, Range Rover Sport, all of which are not only goppingly ugly but somehow seem completely accepted. It is as if the most ugly objects imaginable are wearing a cloak of invisibility.

But mention Panamera and you can be certain that, within seconds, the crowd gathers and accepted wisdom is issued that it is ugly. I don't see it. There are far, far uglier cars on the road than the Panamera.

Probably been said a million times but this is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. It might be brilliant to drive, comfortable etc but it looks too too ugly. Seen one in real life too, in blue didn't look nice at all IMO. If I had the cash I would rather buy the Rapide, Quattroporte or Granturismo. Might not be good as the Porsche but this decision for me would be looks over anything else.

I'm not sure which gets the overall prize for the most god damn awful looking car in the price per looks stakes.

It's either the Panamera or the Maybach.

Both vile looking monstrosities.

I think I'd actually be embarrassed to be seen getting out of one.

Then again ...... the X6 isn't far behind.

We should form a club. There may be at least a dozen of us.

The Panamera looks fit for purpose.

People seem to like the Aston Rapide's looks , but fail to see the simple fact that if you took an Aston Rapide and stretched it a little so that grown up people could actually sit in comfort in the back, it would end up looking pretty much the same as a Panamera !

There is also the small fact that the Aston is a flop and they can't sell the damn things, while the Panamera is very successful.

It seems to be accepted wisdom that the Panamera is ugly. For sheep.

The Panamera looks the way it does because it is designed to do a job with less compromise. It is essentially in a class of one. There is'nt really anything like it.

I should like the AMG E63, or CLS 63 but there is no hatchback option.

And the E series is still a taxi as far as I am concerned. Go to Germany and all E class seem to be taxis.
