Aston seem to really be taking their eye of the off the ball lately. Every two years they restyle one of their two basic cars that have now been with us for almost a decade (V8 and Vantage), call it a new model and put it on sale along with all the other outdated and superseded versions. The engine in this should have been replaced about three years ago, the 'new' Virage should have been a V8 mid-life restyle and the Lagonda should have been an estate (fixes the V8's four-seats-that-are-too-small problem by offering four seats that are too small in a slightly uglier and even slower package)

Apologies for getting overexcited but Aston's product plan really riles me. Don't even mention the Tickford Metro.
Just edited your post. We really have been here before. We could have said all that in 1988. And in 1988 we had the V8 Vantage Zagato, about which the exact same things were said.
Very true, and it nearly sunk the boat in the early 90's. I don't think they'll be genuinely facing the end this time, but I'm sure I read in article in CAR a few months back saying Aston wouldn't be ready to release new stuff for at least a couple of years yet.

Tough call for whom buzz? I suspect someone with £400k to buy a Zagato either already has a GTR if he/she wants one or simply does not want one...
I suspect if I had £400k to spend on the Zag, I wouldn't want to be seen dead in a Nissan smile
It was meant as a bit of a Tongue-in-cheek comment as they look so similar and the outputs are not too far apart either. Obviously they will be aimed at different customers but, despite the exclusivity of the Zagato, is it really worth over £1/4m more?

Even if I had the money, I couldn't ever justify the extra spend but I can't even afford the Nissan so it's not really an issue.

It looks nice, but past Zagato's also added a bit more go to the proceeding's

This car should have another 100hp on top of those looks, instead it's just an expensive rebody, a very nice one at that, but not really something i find all that exciting

Ever since Aston got taken over by some money fund, they seem to have stopped on actually making any new cars and are just changing the bumpers and tail lights every other year

Couldn't agree more on the wheels front - here's a reprint of a reply I gave to 205007 sometime before crimbo;

i want to take the wheel designer at gaydon aside and tell him/her how utterly inappropriate recent aston wheel designs are …… as if the v12 vantage wasn't bad enough they offer these? ………….Fail

Not sure if Gay Don or Gay Donna from Gaydon had anything to do with the wheel design, judging by this light-alloy option you can buy to “Quote” Perfect the athletic appearance of your BMW X5 !!!

God give me strength – only muppets like Zig and Zag are going to fall for that marketing line surely ??? Spaceship them back to planet Zog that’s what I say wink

WOT?!
The SAME wheels on an select Aston as on a vulgar SUV BMW !

European designers have no more imagination.
The Orient copied us, but now we copy them. What a shame.

Those wheels do indeed seem to come from a video-game, or a Star Trek costume!
I thought the Aston Martin was above that!

When will they actually build a new car instead of changing the lights and bumpers time and time again. They are getting left behind and they are gonna die out!

This car is pointless and irrelevant.

Aston is dieing. They need a new platform and some new cars.

Fast.

Yes because the producers of BOND 23 currently have NO Aston Martin to work with apart from the DB5.

Well, what bailed them out last time was being able to re-engineer and rebody a Jaguar XJS, aim it at the Porsche 911 market and make a killing. To survive and move forward, Aston needs another Ford-style partnership.
