Not really. The editor edits. Although if the editor leaves the fastest Bentley ever made in an airport car park for two days again when I could be swanning about in it, he'll be editing Anal and Proctology News.*

  • any passing HR types from Haymarket - this is a joke. Sort of.
What, this one? wink

My round for coffee I guess......

Ah yes,

Looks like you'll be working out the Latvian PH office for a while...

Is it just me, or do white cars look better in winter time when covered with road grime and badly in need of a wash?

More 'dirty' pics of cars please wink

What is supposed to be so much better with the new wheels? They look marginally better, but:
It's a Golf......It's a white Golf.... It's a very overpriced hot hatch with adequate to good build quality, but it's still a GOLF. How can anybody get excited about a Golf? I thought PistonHeads was about desirable cars for serious petrolheads, but please...a Golf??
Have I missed something here? I always thought a Golf was the most shatteringly boring car in the world, but in white with big wheels...Awesome yes

PH Blog: Golf has had a car wash, wheels look better than ever

Are we running out of ideas back in the office or something?

What did you do with the set of winters?

Did VW give/lend them to you? If so, why did they pick their most boring Mk5 wheel??

Looks even more like every other golf now with the fake Diesel soot over the back of it.

BMW 125i M Sport, which is £2k less, much lower emissions, 9mpg better (officialy, whatever that tranlates into), higher torque at lower rpm, RWD, longer wheelbase but same weight. I haven't had a look at the spec and / or discounts though but I wouldn't be surprised if the BMW proved even better VFM than the £2k base price (5 door) difference indicates, even if you ignore the BMW's likely better residuals. But some people have to have a Golf, which is fair enough.

Definately prefer the smaller wheels, those look like someones trying too hard.

I mean its a bland golf regardless of the model they ment to be understated and with oversized wheels ruins the sleeper aspect of otherwise a very cool car.

I'm not so keen on either of those wheels to be honest. The usual Monzas are getting on a bit, but at least they immediately distinguish the car as a GTI.

Its a new white Golf..... Unfortunatley I dont really care if its any good (like several other posters). It just screams (to me) 'I dont like to drive, but my neighbors are well impressed' - Wrong image for me as a performance car enthusiast

Octavia VRs. Same engine, same transmission, same drive really.

The dashboard probably is'nt as soft. The Skoda dealers probably are not quite as condescending. The boots a bit bigger. Otherwise, the same.

The Golf is probably 10% better. But it costs maybe 35% more.

Seat Cupra much the same story.

The Peoples Car is apparently a premium brand these days.

I really can't wait to see if the same debate with the same answers and same critism occurs every time Riggers posts an update on the car! How many times can the same people say they'd prefer a 1 Series, an Octavia or a Leon, and how many times can people claim it's bland and trying too hard? :P

I think the comment on the Golf is related to the number of times PH keeps writing about it.

Personally, I think it is a fascinating, unusual and distinctive car that really captures the imagination. I really can't wait to read even more about it.
