Once you get the hang of being smooth any kind of ice/snow driving can be seriously good fun. I'd imagine even more so in Finland with proper snow and decent vehicles biggrin

I think I'd 'attempt' to get it into one and have it hanging over into 3 biggrin

aww, you can be my friend.
Cool, cheers my Mate, so when are you sorting out the test drive in the bigfoot for me, eh... eh... EH!
Well i dont work for that group any longer, so the chances are pretty slim.
Also, reporter Dan, I think they made 3 "Bigfeet" originally.
One is permanently in Iceland, one does the show tours and promo work such as this, and one was used as a test to see if the other 2 could actually be built. I'm pretty certain that it still exists? Might be in the Dunsfold collection.
There are 2x of them at LRE. There's the one currently out in Finland and there's a TD5 one kicking around too. If you do a search on YouTube, it's also the same Defender that 5th Gear drove out in Iceland (it has also been used as a support vehicle on desert trips too).

As mentioned, there's an additional crawler gear on that car...

Surprisingly good road manners though for tyres that size!

LRO magazine did a big write up on them when they came out a while back. IIRC one was fitted with 38" tyres - 'Bigfoot', and the there was another with 35" tyres - 'Little Bigfoot'. Mainly for recovering vehicles/showing off at press events I believe. http://www.lro.com/magazine.php?issue=7&issue_... You could probably get a copy of the magazine off ebay if anyone's interested. I'll see if I can find my copy if anyone wants any nerdy tech specs. Pretty sure they had axle lockers on top of the factory centre diff lock, and as someone said earlier they defiantely had underdrives.

Here's the fifth gear video someone mentioned, not a great show of its true capabilities imho!

Love it. An article on the XKR-S and Evoque and what's the car everyone, including me, is interested in the most? The Defender with big tyres.

That is why I love PistonHeads.

Any chance of a full article on that Defender?
This - and the other responses - equate to an editor being commissioned to write a story by his readership. And that is why *I* love PistonHeads!

Off the back of this the wheels are in motion and photos and video are being collected and prepared and you shall have a full feature on the Bigfoot in due course.

Just little ones then, my mechanic has a Hilux on 44" tyres...with a supercharged Lexus V8 to turn them, makes a fantastic noise.

XKR in the snow looks like great fun!

To put the size of these things in perspective.

Dan, see if you can get yourself over to Eastnor Castle in that case.
Yes the Solihul offroad course is fun, but Eastnor is a whole other level, and if LR invite you along they'll make a day of it.
Bigfoot is impressive, but somewhat impractical in this country ( unless we do actually get some snow in the next few days ) as the tyres and suspension are almost too much for most purposes.
Why dont you contact this guy too, to do a side by side comparison, seeing as he's only based in Northamptonshire.
