RE: Driven: Lotus Evora S IPS

Not an opinion TBH, simple fact. Buyers vote with their wallets and we all know how poor Evora sales are. I don't think the same could be said for the 911 somehow...
The fact that buyers have thought the 911 and not the Evora (which is clearly true) shows that people have bought the 911 not the Evora. It doesn't show why.I suspect the vast majority of 911 buyers have never even heard of the Evora, let alone seen one in the plastic or driven one. Would they have bought one if they had? Probably not, but we can never be certain.

.. and the new Esprit <£100K to take on the R8, 911 etc. Pitching it against the 458, MP4, Gallardo looks like an accident waiting to happen IMO.
I do not believe for one moment that a new Esprit will become a production car. Lotus will come up with an excuse and that will be the end of it. Trust me, it will never see the light of day.Rawwr said:
£73,950. £73,950. Seventy-three thousand nine-hundred and fifty pounds. SEVENTY-THREE THOUSAND NINE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS! SEVENTY-THREE THOUSAND NINE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS!
finally a car with performance that a lotus should havebut omfg @ the price, how many people are there who buy cars costing this sort of money?

God you're not kidding are you? Last time I looked you couldn't get one for under 45k; now they're well into the 30s!
With 10k on the clock you can get one cheaper than a new Elise!! To be fair, I have never seen the appeal of an auto in any sports car, but that aside the handful of Evoras I have seen in the flesh look much more distinctive then the frankly soulless 911 clones stamped out each year!
Yes lots more people will buy 911s (not knocking them I respect the, a lot just never been gripped by wanting one) that's not the point. they look great and if they are as good to drive as an Elise then what's not to like, and if the second hand ones keep getting cheaper then I may be able to swap the Elise for one in a few years. (yes I drive an Elise so I am biased)

And what's the starting point for a 911 PDK these days? i like the evora but didn't think they were that expensive! are they, more realistically, a cayman S rival as opposed to a 911 rival? seems the performance would seem so, but then it has (limited??) back seats.
if i wanted a lotus, i'd want a manual, no questions asked. if i wanted an auto one, i'd want it a bloody good one, not some old-school torque converter....in a barge, perhaps, a sports car, no thanks.

Quite often see MP4-12Cs around here, but have yet to see an Evora on the road.
But 1450kg - not a case of adding lightness. That's just one passenger short of a 6 cylinder XJS I appreciate that things have moved on - airbags, side intrusion, etc - but wow, for a Lotus that's pretty lardy.
It's the same weight and power as a a boggo 911. It's also cheaper. But 1450kg - not a case of adding lightness. That's just one passenger short of a 6 cylinder XJS I appreciate that things have moved on - airbags, side intrusion, etc - but wow, for a Lotus that's pretty lardy.

If they drop much further, they'll drop below second hand Elises of the same age. That would be rather odd.
At which point I will be buying one!I love Lotus, I love the brand, I think the Evora is lovely in the flesh (I know I'm in the minority with this). It's such a shame what they are trying to do. I would love it if they built a 1.8 RWD soft top like the old MX5 and sell it off at a price that people can afford. Why they are trying to fight the likes of Porsche is utter madness to me.
