I have read great things about the performance but in this vain world it doesn't take away from the absolute fact that it's just a bit boring looking!?
Seriously? The Original AE86 was just a Corolla.

The appeal was always been that it's light and RWD and just heaps of fun.

Almost that Toyota designers thought of not committing to being too extreme in the fear of niching the cars appeal, I understand they want to appear to a wide audience but at what cost? In my opinion, from any potential buyers position, why wouldn't you buy a prettier Scirocco or TT for this sort of money?
Because if you are an enthusiast the drive will be more important and you would want the superior handling RWD car (I haven't driven one obviously but going by the review/previews).

Unfortunately, your opinion is like most of the car buying public who would much prefer and Audi/VW than a Toyota/Subaru.

The RX-8's residual values were stuffed by:

1. Oversupply
2. Fuel consumption
3. Road tax
4. Fear of the rotary

None of those apply to this, which is going to be sold in small numbers, will be economical to fuel and tax and has an ordinary engine. I think residuals on this will be pretty good.

Seems expensive compared to rivals.
Which rivals ?
I'd like to know the alternative coupe for 25K that offer a similar spec for a lower price.

If the suggestion is a very leggy 996 I won't be happy.

£25k sounds about right to me - in a world full of VW Golf's that cost that much it shouldn't be hard to shift.

I'm looking forward to owning one of these - probably the BRZ being realistic (I prefer the looks and the dealers are just as close). A warbly exhaust and maybe a bit of plastic trim to perk the styling up a touch and it'll be smashing!

And anyway, Scirocco, prettier? It looks like a squashed Golf. Or a 90's Honda Civic.

I love it but I think I won't be buying one just because it lacks power and will be difficult (expensive) to tune

Seems reasonable

In a day where most new cars are dull as dishwater or electric/hybrid its nice to see a car that still caters for people like us

I admit i think id go for the Subaru version and even then id be waiting it out for an 'STi' variant

What were the Corollas rivals back in the day though? The GT86 was meant to be a dirivetive of a boring economical hatch and therefore would have had a fairly budget initial cost.

Problem is, this is marketed against TT's, 1 Series and other premium coupe's and that's how it's justifying its price. That doesn't make sense to me...

Sounds like the idea originally was from some excited and passionate, Japanese RWD car obsessive and ended up being diluted until it's forced to be what was never intended.

Balance-sheet Vs the dream.

Not proof read as I can't be arsed (I'm working) so do one if the above is grammatically wrong :P

I think that is a fair price.

Obviously people are going to come on here expecting a 400bhp v8 beast for £10,000 but considering a specced up golf gti is ~30k these days it seems fair.
i thought it seamed reasonable until i saw the 370z was only 30k!

Think the 370 starts at £31-32k.

Agreed. I've never owned a car 'from new', this is the first car which is tempting me towards the non-PH world of finance.

I might actually prefer this one over the fire breathing turbo'd Subaru STI version which will no doubt be released in the next few years. Would be nice to see it compared to the PH car of choice, a mk1 mx5.

I think that's a good move price wise, if it had been over £25k i think people would have more issues, looks like a serious bargain compared to the 190 Celica now!
I always thought the Celica was a pretty good deal, highly underated too wasn't it circa £19k?

The 370Z is 20% more expensive and it's larger engine means higher running costs.

Opel Manta GTE and Scirocco Gti/GTX were two of the cars I saw in group tests

To me it is more muscular and modern. The Toyota looks quite bland and a bit dated already. Good value and a more involving steer, but the looks aren't massively desirable to me!
