Exactly, you can have a used 911 for less than that, or an M6 etc etc etc.

Running costs are going to be about the same!

If it had been around £20k I might have considered it, at £25k I'll be doing this....

Good price that, I'd definitely be tempted. I'm a huge fan of the AE86 and have driven a few of them, willbe interesting to see if there is any comparison at all seeing as Toyota banged on about the AE86 being the inspiration whenthey forst talked about the project.
Thing is I can buy a cracking AE with a lot of very choice upgrades for a lot less and possibly not look like I drive the aforementioned Hyundai Coupe.....

To my eyes, it just looks like a RWD Celica might look and a natural progression from the last two generations of that car so comparing it to a Hyundai is pointless especially since Japanese styling has never really been a strong point in mainstream production models. The rear lights could have done without the chav appearance but that's about it.

The Scirocco may be OK from the front but from the rear, it's a disaster and it's just a lukewarm/hot hatch. The BMW is closest and is a lot uglier having been struck soundly by BMW's ugly stick and also costs more. The TT is also FWD or 4WD so not really the same market.

I suspect this will fall into the PH icon camp like the MX5 in due course.

At 29995 for one of those, walk into a Nissan dealer with 26500 cash and i am sure they will do business. Spectacular value.

I thought about one on the friends/family discount scheme (16% off) but couldnt really justify the running costs as a daily runner

Can you explain why you are comparing the Toyota with a car with a purchase price that is 20% higher?

I've known the price for a while now whistle safe to say that with limited numbers coming into the UK the issue will be getting hold of one! Expect a wait if you're looking to order.

Will be interesting to see what Subaru price at (and then compare specs as it's only the trim and things like nav that will split them) and what sort of numbers they expect to bring in.

The recent Top Gear article was massively weighted to the Scoob - obvious TG Toyota prejudice to the fore then .

Either way, I reckon it will be a hoot to drive - fairly priced too. Personally, I'd go for a base spec and, if needed, supercharge it smile

They will indeed do business for that money, the 370 has not sold well. It's not a car for our times and unfortunately lives in the shadow of it's big brother in some respects. That said I have a Black Edition 370 sat in the garage and I love it.

By the time you've added a few options I imagine you'll be very close to the price you would have to pay to get into a 370Z. Let's face it - Nissan dealers are not exactly beating punters off with a stick, at first glance it's 20% more expensive but I'd argue it's more than 20% better.

What are the relative VED rates and servicing costs for the Toybaru and 370Z though?

Which is precisely why 370Zs are not selling and are so cheap, and why Toyota and Subaru will have no trouble selling every single car they bring to the UK.

I do find the constant referencing to the original Ae86 somewhat ironic.

I had just written a lengthy response but guess my point is this without going into details and the hows, whys and do you mind if i donts smile

Not so long ago you could pick up an ae86 for not much money, as soon as they got rare and achieved a cult status (more so in Japan), everyone wants a similar car and discussions of how great they used to be are whispered on forums and pub corners! Same as Escorts, the now acclaimed British equivalent!

Hmmm prefer the BRZ , actually for 25k I'd buy a 370z / Z4MC and a trip to Vegas.

sensible money for something that gets the right amount of attention, the right amount of tingle in the right regions when pressing the go pedal without making you feel like you bought a Toyota because you couldn't afford something better.
So you buy a car to attract attention and to get a semi ?

Probably not the car for you, indeed. ;-)

My main concern was practicality but i didnt think i could spell it so missed it off my original post. The toyota will suffer the same fate.

Fair point on the servicing - don't know what the Toyota will be but when I had my 350Z it cost less than £200 for a service at Nissan. Difference in VED will be around £200 annually - or 2 tanks of fuel. Not really enough to put me off a car at this price.
