There's a whole story associated with that pic. I was driving with my father to collect an MX-5 I just bought, 300 miles away. We're used to snow, but that was probably the worst road conditions I remember. We started at 5AM with an aim to come back by evening... I was pushing, doing around 60mph smile Then, I hit something with right front wheel - probably a rock or block of ice - and basically become a passanger. Somehow, after a complete Aaltonem and missing the oncoming traffic, we landed in a ditch without even a scratch. After 3 hours of waiting for road assistance we were able to continue our journey. Lets just say the return leg in an MX-5 on 6 year old winter tires was "ineteresting" smile We made it back by mid day the next day.

And one from my less glamorous XR4x4. It does look like a feather boa though!

From a few days ago;

The daily driver (spiked tyres through winter help a lot):

And the second car for when things get really bad/ I need extra seats/ in the mountains:

Or some WD40 or wipe some Vaseline round the door seals.

Then a mate told me about smearing vaseline lightly around the rubber seal and I never had a problem after that smile

Good winter tip from andyps there!
Vaseline isn't good - it reacts with the rubber on the seals and causes it to deteriorate more quickly.

Had to pour water (luke warm) to enable to open my frameless door yesterday morning.
Get some silicon lubricant and wipe it around the seals, stops the window freezing.

I had an Audi which was, for some reason, horrendous to get into when it was below freezing. I nearly pulled the door handle off trying to open the bd thing.

Actually what you need is this:

Good shout - had to get into my car from the passenger side a few days ago as the drivers side wouldn't open!

Really cheap own brand furniture Polish (Tesco's own brand is pennies). It has a high silicon content and a quick spray around the rubbers solved any issue I had with frameless windows.

An off roader being put to use off road. Not something we typically see here in Surrey.

Winter gloves I should hope. And hat and coat.

Winter jumper and a coat...no winter tyres though I might stick one on the back for this winter.

I wish we were expecting snow.

The temperature here all day, 8.00 AM to 5.30 PM has been between 102 F & 105F.

Inside, with the air conditioning going flat out all day, it has not dropped below 88F. It actually feels cool in side, but I guess that is only by comparison.

Last year in the Alps, snow socks were brilliant!

Hitting the Alps in my Merc in January! Have 4x snow socks and chains if it gets really bad. Were you on winter tyres, or was it over summers?

I was on summers which was a bit naughty and I was a little anxious about it as well. However, when we got there, the weather was fine and the roads were clear but it properly dumped down with snow about two days later and stayed like that for the rest of the holiday. We took four socks with us but only ended up using two as they were a bit of a pig to get on due to the cramped space between tyre and arch. However, they were brilliant. The village was at the top of a hill and we had absolutely no dramas going up and down in the snow with the socks on, would highly recommend them!

I'll bet you pay for the BMW branding on that!

I use Halfords rubber and nylon lubricant spray - spray it onto a bit of tissue and wipe it round the seals, one application lasts the winter. I've also used it on the window seal along the door top edge (frameless window) as that froze once but that did leave a lot of streaks on the window when I wound it fully down and back up.

Skis are what you need no the front then a studded tyre on the back.
