Here's a photo of the car in use. Note; 1. A reasonable ride height 2. The presence of (inboard) springs and dampers.

Compare that to this and see what i mean about offsets and lines and tyre sizes.

Could you explain further? The hydraulically suspended car obviously has to allow for the tyres to be able to move up under the arches. The one in your photo looks as if practically no suspension movement could happen at the rear without tyre rub - though I agree the car in your photo is more aesthetically pleasing, with regard to wheel & tyres.

I don't think Olber has disgraced himself.

This whole thread reminds me of the Simpsons when the go to Lollapuloza (or the like). Homer puts on a rasta hat and is accused of hate crimes.

Basically put someone want to do this to a car - any car. Some people like it, some don't. People argue about the aesthetics of the design - people who don't like it are called 'haters'.

My response to all - please stop. We have seen now on several threads that the majority of PH do not like the 'stance' look. Personally I used to like the look, but stopped when I was 19 (this isn't an attack, or insult).

Most on this site like the look of a purposeful car - low, aggressive. All the time.

So all the 'haters' (myself included), realise that people are just trying to troll now. To all the 'lovers' (no idea what else to call you), please accept that the majority of PH do not like what you do or like, and will say so.

Is this too difficult to understand? Can we put this topic to bed please?

Finally, to please everyone, a 'Stanced' cat. biggrin

It's set up for track work, absolutely. I wouldn't have my road car that low. On track that will work really well. It's on coilovers so is easy enough to raise up if being used on the road.

The way it looks though, like you mentioned, with the arch gap the same all the way round and the offset of the wheels and the tyre sizing, it flows and looks like a car. A car with a purpose, a useable, functioning tool.

If you go beyond this, to the extreme and beyond it, then it stops being a functioning tool and becomes an ornament and to get to that situation where it is so low it needs to detract from what makes it look good in the first place. The wheels go in board, the arch gap disappears completely and the already fat bumpers now become even more pronounced and moo moo like.

I'm stuck as to why that looks good and was hoping someone could tell me. I hate writing things off for no good reason if it was simply a case of me missing something.

That thing that people find so awesome about it, seems to be pretty hard for them to put down in words.

Anyhow, it sounds to me, 4 or 5 pages later, you are looking for a rise out of someone, you have had your answer and I will answer the same.....it is all matter of opinion but generally us "Dubbers" like our cars low with minimal arch gap and some of us like the practicality of being able to have them low and having them at a normal height on the flick of a switch. Each to their own would you not agree?
That is the closest anyone has come to answering the question yet.
In fact it is the only attempt in the last 4 or 5 pages.

Is it just me or has the answer to Olbers (deliberately obtuse) question already been posted?

I'm going to go with, racing cars sit closer to the ground than regular production cars, so by lowering my car it looks more like a racing car and as such much cooler than it used to smile

Sporty(ish):

I like my cars to sit reasonably low, not so low they can't be driven but think generally most cars look a bit better when they sit a bit lower than they came out the factory, obviously there are many examples when straight from the factory a car sits nicely but more often than not a bit of a drop can make an improvement (IMO of course) smile
It's pretty simple really. If you think of something that is really stable (like a limpet), you think low and wide. A lower centre of gravity is better for handling. The wheels being further apart and the body sitting lower in relation to them makes the car look more stable.

Rover city - tall and skinny, Lambo - low and wide.

Watch some touring cars, wheels tucked up in arches, stupid camber, it's all there.

You don't think there's a limit where a good mod (Like you say, low and wide) becomes comical and just done to be the most extreme?

That looks just like a touring car does it?

I get the low and wide thing but, don't most of these cars actually narrow the track, or at least appear to do so.

Stop moaning, it's just a lump of metal - you lot sound like those guys who got upset when clarkson et al smashed a morris marina to pieces. Jeez, it's not like there are not another gazillion 911's in the world, with more being churned out every day.
What are you doing on PH's, should you not be on a tree hugger's thread?
