Interesting.

What I find unpleasant about the car is not that it's been modded - my RS has been modded (in fact pretty much every RS I've ever seen has been modded) - but that it claims to be something it's not (i.e. it wears an RS badge but it isn't).
Some more on the car.

I used to be a dubber as you say (I have had 4 mk1 golfs, a mk2, 2 mk3 vr6's and a corrado not one have i made too low or smoothed out i liked the oem look with more power under the hood and kept my coilovers nearly stock height with increased damping resistance), and have had a 200sx S14, a honda s2000, and a mazda rx8, i have also driven ariel atoms, vx 220, finally a caterham 300 superlight please can i know how you come by your appreciation of my driving abilities and car tuning preferences??

I think your making comments about a complete scene you know nothing about most Dubbers are actually men in their late 30's and 40's :-).

PS what do you drive?? and your tuning preferences?? the other guy who called dubbers kiddie fiddlers for their tuning of cars has a Rev 3 MR2 turbo all chavved up for sale so hypocrisy runs strong here
Last time I checked my eyes worked and I used it at a couple of dubster shows and also used them to flick through a vw mag and its all in there - men with their trousers round their ankles and gold chains walking as if they have piles

its the scene thats cringing not the cars and you have had a good selection of cars - thing is i dont know or have seen you or your driving style to comment on it!

I really like masses of body filler to smooth every part of the bodywork on my mk4 tdi with a mk1 engine 8v conversion it has 20s all round and the coil-overs are set to the lowest settings - the council calls me to do snowploughing sometimes

-wait that sounds familiar biggrin

I'd tap that.

Car isn't that bad either. I like the wheels, and the 'stance' before it gets dropped is good. OK, airsus isn't to everyone's taste, but it's hardly ruined it.
Maybe ruin is a little harsh. But hey, it really isn't to my taste.

Though perhaps we should have put it up as a blog rather than a 'news' story

Most of the fuss on here is because the PH editorial team didn't realise that its a Carrera 4, not a RS.

Personally I object to the car wearing a RS badge, but the rest of it is down to individual taste. All the modifications seem to have been executed well as far as one can see and the car looks to be much loved, so I can't see the harm in it.

The whole "lowering and cruising" thing isn't my scene, but they're passionate car enthusiasts so we should be on their side. Its the anti-car 'mentalists who are the enemy

Is it possible for you to write anything useful other than pathetic assumptions or remarks about how it's a dubber who must own it?

The guy who owns the car has a paint spraying business hence the car having had a full respray in porsche polar silver, US spec RS bumpers, clear indicators and rolled arches so hardly the halfords parts bin special.

The car runs Ravern Hydraulic suspension so not exactly budget coilovers or chopped springs, these allow the car to be raised as well as lowered which seems to be beyond a lot of people's comprehension.

As far as I can see the RS badge is the let down, nothing else.

I agree whole heartedly with this.

I would also add that journalism is meant to be impartial so making an editorial peice based so strongly on personal dislike is a poor effort. Very few people on here i would guess have completely standard cars or have never modded a part of their vehicle so then the changes are purely down to what we each like at the end of the day what he does is good for cars in general and the love of said cars.

I like it driving. I don't like it "sitting". Aside from the incorrect "RS" badges, I think it is well executed and not at all OTT.

I haven't seen a porker modified like this before, so it seems fairly original to me.

so Kam B, what you are actually saying is that unlike sootyrumble who has shown his hand on his impressive car history, you have had sod all of any interest whatsoever? And therefore Sir should not be commenting on things you know F'all about other than to have quote been to "a couple of dubster shows and also used them to flick through a vw mag". I'm interested to know why if you're so anti-Dubber why you would have been to such enthusiast gatherings on more than one occasion, maybe it's to see the men with their trousers round their ankles and gold chains, perhaps you're reading the wrong magazines matey?

No, before you even think it, I'm not a Dubber, (I am though a paid up member of the the PCGB (Google it!!) and actually own one of that marque - and though I am not a Dubber I do respect the passions of those who are members of any particular marque or motoring fraternity.

Thats the first thing/company Id think of when upgrading my Porsche's suspension! Id rather have budget coilovers than a ghetto style lowerider set up

Fair point - as said already it should have been a blog. But a) we don't have any pretensions toward BBC-esque impartiality b) hindsight is a wonderful thing and c)the whole editorial team felt the car to be a bit, er, wrong.

Having said that it is definitely a case of each to their own, so I don't in all seriousness condemn this chap for what he's done to his car - my tongue is firmly lodged in my cheek when I say 'ruined'. At the end of the day it's has car and his money - so his choice.

I like it, and I'm getting a bit pissed off with the elitist attitude of some of the Pistonheads staffers and writers.

I think it's going a bit far in emphasising the Belfast angle to include a girl who's clearly malnourished and has suffered from childhood polio...

The symnbolism of a car with broken suspension to stop people nicking it's wheels is quite strong tho wink
