Try a dealer for the gear lever insert - it would probably as cheap as a second hand bit and far less bother - nice timber btw, is it Poplar or Arizona Sun?

My father is currently in the process of building his Herald Convertible- its got a 2.5 Vauxhall V6 in it (he had it lying around the warehouse), and various bits from various cars underneath to make sure it doesn't fly off the road at every available opportunity. Period bucket seats, banded steelies and an integrated roll cage should make it interesting when its done this summer!
