They should have just been honest and called it the 'Wealthy Chav Special' - as thats exactly the market it will appeal to.
+1

Reminds of when I was on the Audi stand at Goodwood a couple of years back looking the the standard TTRS. A chap (chav) without a top on sporting only a pair of reebok classics and england football shorts that had clearly been "on it" all day barged past with his girlfriend in tow, yelling "this is my favourite faaakin car." before plonking his sweaty topless form into the drivers seat, grabbing the wheel and pretending to drive.

His girlfriend, obviously impressed screamed:
"It well suits you babe!" and started taking photos.

Funnily enough everyone else instantly lost interest in the car...

3.0 TSI does similar power and sounds awesome once you've binned the girly standard exhaust.

It may be a decent car but a Porsche is a Porsche - there is no substitute.

If you're into Turbo cars then you can get a decent 996 GT2 for around £50k, aswell a number of other great cars.
Really? Is it too much to hope that the PH crowd will ever understand the inanity of comparing new price against used? This is a fundamentally flawed argument.

The main problem with the TT-RS is probably not price and probably is that it isn't very good.

This. I've said it before and I'll say it again, still one of the worst "performance" cars I've driven on track.

Masses of grip, zero fun.
Do you think this is becoming more common with some German marques? I know they're technically very good but I read loads of reviews saying that many just lack character / excitement. I feel Audi may be one of the worst perpetrators.

An indication of slow sales.............and far too expensive when judged against brand new and used competition.

I feel, given the engine etc and the other cars its competing with in this region it should have come with 360Bhp in the first instance, should have been a 400 brake S without the foul wheels..

The audi bummers will no doubt love it !

At the risk of being flamed, Audi RS models only make sense as Saloons/Estates (more so the latter) as they offer supercar rivalling pace with grip and practicality. The TT RS+ simply has too many proper sportscar rivals to justify it, whereas an RS6 Avant, for example, doesn't.

Be a good used buy in 5years if its going to be as unloved as people are making it out, plus it will have probably had the alloys refurbed by then.

True but no matter what you do to it you'd still be in a chavved up TT and they'd be in a V10 R8. I know which one has more kudos.

What has happened to alloy wheels these days? Simple, clean, elegant designs are almost nowhere to be seen. Even Aston Martin have been using some designs that look worryingly similar to cheap Halfords efforts lately.

Maybe I'm alone in liking unfussy multispoke designs. It's not exclusive to expensive metal either, even Renaultsport (which used to use timeless wheels like Oz F1s and Speedline Turinis) have been using 'quirky' designs of late.

Needs less power, smaller wheels, RWD, to be lighter and cheaper. About 1,200kgs, 200bhp, RWD, and £25k should do it. Oh, hang on...

£5k for a remap and a wheel refurb? Really?

What would a generic remap add to the "standard" TT RS?
Agreed, mental. Standard remap is £700 and you'll run over 400bhp on it.

I paid just over £3k for a full race miltek, filter, IC and Revo stage II and am now running close to 450bhp...puts the PLUS to shame - they could have done a lot better but it becomes an R8 V10 killer!
Where do you get your remaps done? That's a ridiculous price! Mine are around £300 no matter what the car.

It's the consumers who choose the styles nowadays. The future doesn't look pretty if this keeps up.

Nice car, apart from the tasteless Rotor rims. The edge would have looked better with silver to match the black and silver on the front and rear valences of the car.

Not to mention it would cost more per year to mention those mods on your insurance, rather than buying the plus.

Who in his right mind would buy this over a Cayman S/R?
Maybe someone who likes the styling, wants rear seats for sprogs, needs a bit more luggage space, or lives somewhere where every 3rd car is a porker.

Certainly gotta have a lot of spare cash though as £51k can get you an awful lot of car these days.

There's a lot of chat about this on the VAGOC forum - guys are running 500bhp+ through this block with no issues. My clutch is starting to slip at 18k miles so I suspect I'll have to replace that at my own cost - cest la vie.
