The NI MOT expires in August - it looks like a little A5 swimming certificate from school laugh
Yeah, but it actually means something, unlike the "English" MOT which is a £20 note to your mechanic once a year. Our MOT is done by a government agency, in proper test centres, not some back street garage or stfit.

Agreed..our mot is a very high standard and a lot of cars you would imagine to have no problem don't pass without quite a bit of money spent on them.

With regards to log books/mot's etc spending a "large" period of time on the phone may or may not be usefull depending if the person you are talking to knows what they are talking about. In my experience just do the checks you normally would, bring the paperwork home and dump it on the tax office desk and they will do a keeper change and tax it if necessary.

People are making it overly complicated when it's not simply because they are talking to/taking advice from someone who doesn't know themselves.

What's the car if I may be so cheeky?

Still lots of folks here take their stheaps on a wee trip to Scotland for an MOT, because they've NO chance of ever getting one here.

Vauxhall Vectra VXR Estate biggrin

I live in Northampton and there is a DVLA office there so that's my Saturday morning sorted then I guess.

Edit - that's not my Saturday sorted - I was expecting too much for a DVLA office to open at the weekend mad

Just been on the DVANI website and things seem to have changed. In the section on importing/exporting it now says that cars transfering between NI & GB are no longer regarded as imported/exported, so it looks like you can just tax in NI with a V5C or tax in GB with a V5C(NI), i.e. no need for the other form which was a V55/5(NI) I think.

That's correct.

My issue is that I'm in the UK the tax expires at the end of the month and the car is not yet registered in my name.

So I can't use the web based service I have to go to the local DVLA office. Which does not open at weekends.

Hi there, I am in the middle of this process at the moment. I have just received my confirmation that no VAT will need paid and am about to book for MOT in the north. I am importing from ROI to NI! I am just wondering if the car is NCT'd and Tax'd in ROI can I drive it in NI while the re reg is in process if I am insured under VIN?

Forgive the thread resurrection, but I wondered if the strength of the pound versus the euro had led to an increase of personal imports into the UK.

I'm shopping around for a new car and was looking to see if the fx savings make importing worthwhile.

I looking at a car that currently registered in Ireland but was originally a UK car. Will it need an NCT before being exported?

Thanks

No. It'll need a new (UK) MOT, whether it's got an NCT or not.

If there's a VRT rebate to be had then yes, but that's up to the seller
