RE: Electric Morgan promises sideways fun
Discussion
I appreciate that fossil fuels are a finite resource blah blah blah, but lets stop pretending that electric cars are exciting.
I know this is a well beaten drum but without the sound in a performance car, I think you're losing 50% of the 'experience'. I struggle to see owners of electric sports cars rolling down their windows in a tunnel, dropping down a gear and flooring it. Even with that aside I'm sure I'm not alone in using the engine note to tell me when to change up/down (perhaps no longer essential in an electric car but very satisfying).
Electric cars for everyday use? Absolutely! For the weekend? I think ill stomach £1.50 a litre thanks.
P.S. I'm pretty sure that power stations don't run on fairy dust.

Sounds good, the problem is you end up with a Morgan.
Fortunately some of us like Morgans Whereas the new Plus 8 looks nothing at all like any previous car?
but when do you ever see one, I haven't seen one on the road in the last 10 years

Peaky power delivery? Am I missing something? 100% torque available going from 0rpm? Perhaps I've misunderstood something or there is terminology confusion going on here...
Yep I'm confused as well... they are the complete opposite of peaky. b14 said:

Yep I'm confused as well... they are the complete opposite of peaky. Good for Morgan to keep a bit of relevance to the lentil-sniffers but ultimately as long-term useful as a 2 year old's Christmas present.

Yep I'm confused as well... they are the complete opposite of peaky. You can also have a very low rotating mass as well, its a little surprising that they are adding a fly wheel I suppose it must be so joining the moter and the box is easer.

That's what I thought. I'm presuming that there is not a whoosh parrot coming along.

They need somewhere to bolt the clutch to.You can also have a very low rotating mass as well, its a little surprising that they are adding a fly wheel I suppose it must be so joining the moter and the box is easer.
to cptsideways yes you can convert petrol cars to electric.... the cost is about 10,000 euros!!
search for EVIC (electric vehicles industrial cluster) based in bulgaria.
seems like bulgaria will be the european centre for electric vehicle manufacture with uk, bulgarian and chinese companies all setting up factories here,
not sure how fast they will go as the MD of the company says "they are tuned forklift trucks"
i have been looking into electric snowmobiles so i can access enviromentaly sensitive areas but the technology is a few years away as battery life is ok (30 miles) on the flat land but as soon as you try to climb a mountain maybe 3 miles. regenerative braking and solar charging stations will be essential.

I'm still waiting for Zytek's electric Smart car, should have been launched years ago, is still 'coming soon'...
Why are you waiting? Do you want to buy one? You've been able to lease them for years. They are now on the 3rd generation, so "coming soon" has been and gone...

Thank you for that comment, made me chuckle. Also on another note why do these manufacturers think a range of 100 miles is acceptable for electric cars???
I fill my car up with jesus juice and i can squeeze between 270-340 miles which lasts about 7 days, how long would it take to recharge fully the batteries and what if on my daily commute of 70 miles I have to take a detour and i run out of power, do I pop into woolworths for a couple of AA batteries to get me home?
