40K... What blithering idiot is going to spend that kind of money on an A1....?
My thoughts exactly.
They'll always be someone! Probs done some kind of market research amongst the "finance to the hilt" brigade!

What are you on about?

Strangest post on PH so far in 2012 award. I'd love to know the rationale.
Absolutely!!!

Some estranged fanboy of another marque with delusional tendencies of superiority I suspect.

Love the concept but the price is bonkers!!

Figures don't stack up, should be faster 0-60 than that?

Why would they underclaim though?

A few posts are saying this.

Its 256bhp, 1300kg and "4wd" 0-60 in 5.7.

Audi A3 3.2quattro. 250bhp, 1500kg and "4wd" 0-60=6.4

Same story for anything with a Haldex system really. After watching an old 160hp Civic saloon racing an Audi TT it was amazing to see them side by side through first gear. The TT could not launch.

5.5-ish seems pretty quick to me.
What does 2nd gear run to?

The RS3's pretty darn good at this - but then it does have specific launch control... Never thought about it before but you might be onto something here...

In today's terms it's "reasonably" light. I was comparing, say an Evo 8 with only about 18 bhp more and slightly heavier getting to 60 in amost a second quicker. It just seems it should be quicker that's all.

Hmmm.....a heavily and expensively modified for performance version in an extremely limited run, and words like "homologation" being banded around?

I'd say CH knows a little more than he's allowed to let on?

Aside from the possible 4WD derivatives, is Audi going back to it's performance roots and cooking up a WRC version, and that's really what Quattro GmbH are so "busy" with?????
Unlikely to be honest. VAG's focus on the WRC is with the Polo R that's due out next year. Can't see why they'd field an A1 aswell.

Good point! Perhaps 2 gearchanges required. That would slow it down a bit I guess.

I pray that Ford bring out a Fiesta RS (as the focus looks like its gone all soft and lumpy) with 250bhp, fwd, a sweet LSD and a £20k (max) list price.

There's room in the market for a slightly hardcore small hatch. The big hatches have gotten too big now and are now saloon sized.

I'd doubt the TTRs or Rs3 use the exact same system. IIRC the Haldex now uses an ediff design like the lukewarm BMWs. With the previous Haldex IIRC with the torque distribution method, if two front wheels and one rear had no traction it wouldn't matter if the 4th was on dry tarmac, you wouldn't go anywhere.

I think the AUdi S3 is a better comparison 261bhp 0-60 5.5 seconds and a weight of 1455kg! somthing doesnt look right about the A1 performance to me?

Why were you expecting that? Cars haven't looked like that for more than 20 years.

While i don't think i would use embarassed i sort of know the feeling. I dont like audi, and i dont really have a rational reason that explains why.

I see articles on rs this and audi that and i just have no excitement toward them at all, which is odd as they are all super quick performance machines that i should be lusting over. I'm just not.

Maybe they are like the band that everyone loves and you just dont get. Audi are coldplay. It doesnt help that everyone has one, they are everywhere. More a3s than there are ford focus in my works car park and i work for the council. Doesnt help they all look the same and its a look i really liked when it first came out but now its just meh.

My mothers currently looking for an A3 and im trying to find alternatives, everyone i put up she ignores as its an Audi she wants. An Audi will impress the neighbours and look great on the drive.

It might just be me, when looking for a cheap hatch the vw golf mk4 stood out head and shoulders, i bought vw mags and read up on them. In the end I bought an mgzr, worse i suspect in every way other than the fact i love it and its not a golf.

Told you it wasnt rational.

Yup, I'd turn up in one at PH meets with a mate in an AM Cygnet. The smug looks on our faces would really go down well!

I read they're considering a convertible A1 as well as the allroad. Just wondering, would a convertible S1/RS1 allroad be at all possible? It sounds so ludicrous it might just be amazing!
