RE: SOTW: Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
Discussion
I have always liked these; weapon of choice for racing against FTO's and 325i's in Grand Turismo 2 (enough power to beat that black silvia on high speed ring, on the second race of clubman cup? Or smash the Kei-cars on Tahiti road? absolutely. Vs the S2000's on Red Rock Speedway, maybe not).
I even saw one (a real one no less!) a few years ago in Donvale, a little suburb in Melbourne, outside a computer shop. Given that they never sold them downunder, I was pretty impressed. If I lived in the UK, where cars are ridiculously cheap secondhand compared to here, I would be all over that.
Ali.

Unfortunately these have become 'council estate' cars; once expensive motors that are usually in their umpteenth owner who can't afford to maintain them.
There's one near me, on aforementioned estate in yellow, body-kitted to the 9's that hadn't moved in 12+months.
And the cambelt is an engine-out job, so I'd want to see the bill AND receipts for the parts as cambelt failure will write-off a car of this value!

Remember seeing one in France when they first came out and thinking
Forward to now I think they look dated when compared to the same era Alfa GTV....which I looking to buy one of now in v6 form. Shed-ish money at £2.5 to £3.5 for something with low mile for the age, a lot of history, (usually) enthusiast owned. GTV V6 is a lot of car for that kind of cash.

GTV V6 is a good choice, but in a dog fight, i would always pick the Fiat, i have nothing to prove this but i bet the fiat would start to walk away from the Alfa from 60 onwards.....Forward to now I think they look dated when compared to the same era Alfa GTV....which I looking to buy one of now in v6 form. Remember trying to convince my parents to buy a yellow 16V Turbo when they first came out. I think I bought my first 20VT at 23, it was stunning in Portofino Blue which is a sort of gay lilac colour.
Everything that you want a car to be (with the exception of it being FWD perhaps, AWD would have been nice) it was, more than quick enough, knicker elastic snapper, achingly beautiful.
Christ I need to buy another one.
I don't have any decent pics of my first one but this was my second one- remaped to somewhere north of 260bhp. Certainly surprised a few PHers on a run

One of these pulled up at a set of lights near me on the approach to an empty dual carriageway a couple of weeks ago and I knew what it was when I heard him pull up. When the lights changed he went for it, the sound was glorious. I managed to keep my nose in front of him all the way up the hill but I was made to work hard for it! I dont think I managed to pull more than 3 or 4 car lengths on it. I was in an E46 330i.

Must have been broken then, or not a 20vt. Book 1/4 mile time on a fiat coupe 20vt is 14.5 secs, which is achievable. Not bad for 1k, I guess. I remember it caused quite a storm back in Italy when this was released alongside the GTV and the Barchetta.
I like the design - don't shoot me, but it may have been Chris Bangle. I guess he had to balance for the Multipla.
My cousin had one a few years back but hated the fact it was FWD and moved on to an older Integrale 16v, which he much preferred.
