Im guessing your car doesnt have the air suspension option then?
Nope I bought it S/H very few have it as an option on the X5 it's called Adaptive drive and a £2,500 option so I guess not many buyers select it I only saw one listed with it S/H.My mistake was I had test drives in London in cars with 19's and then I went and bought a car from a countryside dealer on the test drive the harshness of the 20's wasn't apparent so not an issue but once back in London after a few weeks it started to become very tiring to the point I was thinking of getting shot of it.
I'd imagine the adaptive drive would be very good whether it's worth £2,500 is debatable though
Because as I've discovered with sports and 19's the ride has been transformed and I'm really very happy totally works for me.
I've got a 3.0d X5 with the 8 speed box currently. I love it - fast and comfortable. Its an SE spec on 20" rims and I can't say I find the ride anything other than excellent. Over 4,500 miles I've got 28mpg - most of that is in traffic then a short squirt on the motorway - I think that's pretty good for such a big car. I have a friend who has a Jeep SRT - he's always steered away from diesels in the past (I say steered away, I mean discounted them out of hand), but he drove this and is seriously considering a 4.0d as his next car.
Mine does seem to attract a fair bit of attention, but that's down to the gansta white bodywork/ 20" black wheel combination.
Can't comment on the 7 seat option other than to say I had one with the extra row once - I could just about climb into them but I wouldn't have wanted to go more than a couple of miles sat right in the back.... (but then I'm not 10 yrs old.....)

I've had my X5 3.0 SD since the end of 2007....it's SE spec as it was before the M Sport's were released though I think it's just aboout the only BMW that still looks good in SE form. I think it's a fabulous car for what we need and despite having never run a car for more than two years I have had this for nearly five years and there's nothing else I want....probably until the new X5 comes out. It's very comfortable, especially if you have the comfort seats which are absolutely superb and the best money you can spend on the car IMHO. Ws have the 7 seats (and plenty of other options)....they're very useful as we have two kids so whenever Granny comes over they are in use.
I agree that the urban mpg is awful (we live in London) compared to the claimed mpg...I average 22 or 23 mpg since I have had it. Never seen 30 mpg!
I alos have the 20's and did go to the trouble of changing the RFT's but that really didn't make that much difference...the ride does leave a lot to be desired over speed bumps etc. I wouldn't get a car with 20's unless I had adaptive drive again.....it's pretty much the one box I didn't tick, though I think it was £2.5k when I ordered the car.

I tried to get my wife to an X5 but she hated it. She quite liked the XC90 but ended up with a Quashqi as in her words it didn't drive like a tank.
Its kinda grown on me. It has a fairly decent four wheel drive, decent 7 seat space, but best of all its consumption is currently averaging 46mpg.

I've no idea what people are doing to dmamage the aluminium trim so much either....our car is nearly five years old nad has I think one scratch on it. Personally I prefer it and don't like BMW's wood offerings....the only one I really like is Piano Black which is obviously an Indivdual Option.
