I've also posted this in the Porsche section, but because the car is so distinctive, thought it would be useful to post here as well . It's not my car , but belongs to Delwym Mallett

As posted on DDK

[quote="KS"]Probably one of the best-known 356s in the UK (for all kinds of reasons!), Del's 'Streamliner' 356 coupe was stolen last night from his house in Farnham.

It is chassis number11176 – a Reutter-bodied 1952 coupe modified with full Le Mans-style fender skirts all round, louvred rear quarter window inserts, through the bonnet fuel filler, etc. The Police haven't even come round to see him – they say there's nothing they can do but hope it gets picked up the the ANPR cameras (what a f+++++g joke). It's probably on a boat, or on a remote farm, but it will resurface sometime, surely?

It disappeared sometime between 9.00pm Monday night and 8.00am Tuesday morning (today).

PLEASE tell everyone and keep your eyes and ears open. Del's owned this car for ever... His number is 01252 726731 - mine is 01208 871490

Surprised such a distinctive car got stolen - would be an easy spot. Must be getting stripped for parts or going abroad, either way for a fraction of its real value - a damn shame.

sad, but it's probably already on a container on it's way to join some somali pirates fleet

although on the other hand it's not the kind of thing you could joyride without being noticed

How on earth was it taken?
Was it outside, garaged, keys taken ?
The circumstances of the theft may be a clue. Often these rare historic cars are taken having been targeted at shows and in magazines. It would be worth him seeing if anyone had done an address check from the reg number with DVLA. Although if he is well known in the scene, where the car was kept may not have been so secret.

I it was taken from just outside his gaff one evening, it could have been opportunists, but anything more planned and it is almost certainly been specifically targetted by those in the scene I am afraid.

I recall a mk 2 I think it was being taken from a locked garage over a weekend by then taking the roof off the back of the garage, then removing the door from the inside. Proper pro targeted job.

Scary.

Poor chap must be mortified.

Good Luck with recovery, but you have to think that such a distincrtive car has been taken to order.

BTW is that a Tatra T87 in the background?

I guess it can only be a opportunist crime, I can't see how you could move on such a rare car.

+1 this is a Pro job. possible its been stolen to order. my heart goes out to owner.

I know a guy who had a rare classic motor bike stolen, they lifted it over his porshce in a single car garage without setting the alarm of or damaging his car in anyway. no idea how as the roofs quite low.

Could be worse

it could of been stolen by some fkwitted chav and is now been burnt out

At least if stolen to order it is likely to remain in one piece

ANPR? That car's not been taken by joy riders out for a thrash down the dual carriageway.

My thoughts are with the owner, as that is something irrepaceably unique, and a huge loss.

Could be worse? So the owner loses something thats virtually priceless, but its ok because the automotive world hasn't lost it because it will stay in one piece? If its stolen to order, he'll probably never see it again.

Is this a service that is even available, and if so is it available for just anyone to use?

That's really bad news. I don't know the car, but at least in this internet age, word will get around like wildfire to mark it and its specialized parts out as stolen goods. Of course if it really has been taken by an unscrupulous "collector" then it may just disappear indefinitely like the Goldfinger Aston Martin.

Where as if some chav has burnt it out then it will never be on the road again with the owner behind the wheel

What an incredible looking car. I must agreee though, far too recognisable to stay in the UK. Poor guy must be devastated.
I don't have any faith in the Police after experiencing a hit and run to my car in October. I had witnesses, got the Taxi plate number, description of car and driver. They did nothing. Filed two complaints and still haven't heard anything.
