I remember that test, think I might still have the magazine somewhere. Astonishing. Although apparently the limiter was removed which apparently has an added side effect of releasing more torque, so it wasn't quite standard.

This one is build for china, Mercedes expect it to be their biggest market in 2015.. the cars in the past were build for us Europeans, but now we're losing the game.. next thing is we work in Mercedes factories 18 hours a day to feed our family.

Thanks for the Info on a limited edition V10 R8... I was comparing it too his car...anyone who thinks this will be slow has never be in an AMG sl..this is a fast car once up and moving...how often do you launch from the lights?

0-60 is a meaningless figure for a GT..50-100mph is where these things excel and more a measure of real world GT car performance.....even the R230 model SL 55 is a very fast car once up and moving when the weight is less of an issue

I don't want to sound troll like here, and in principle I agree with your sentiments, AMG Mercedes are all quick, but the weight is an issue to acceleration whatever speed you're doing, you might be thinking of top speed where weight is almost irrelevant. Your power to weight ratio which directly affects acceleration is the same off the line as at 200mph. If anything, a heavier car with the same power to weight as a lighter one will be quicker off the line as it should have better traction over the driven wheels.
Are you sure Steve. For the kind of figures we are talking, weight has significantly less bearing on speed as it increases. Aerodynamics begins to take over, this happens a loooooong time before you get to 200. As to weight over the wheels, it also depends how traction is managed at low speeds.

Liking the inside and outside of the 2002-2007 models.

Loathing the inside and outside of the new model!

Why has Mercedes-Benz gone nuts with these late 1960s Ford Cortina Aero-Flow vents? They're far too big and cause the Comand system to sit offset below the display screen - it's even worse in the R172 SLK.

Early 60s Aeroflow vents, please. I had them on my 1963 Cortina Mk 1.
