The caption towards the end of the vid there says "a new era of extreme V12 cars dawns".

Seems to me a new era of increasingly irrelevant, overpriced and far-too-powerful-for-anything-other-than-a-deserted-racetrack cars is about to dawn. That doesn't mean they shouldn't make them for the fortunate few, but I just can't get excited about this.
I doubt it will be far-too-powerful-for-anything-other-than-a-deserted-racetrack. If you mean, can you regularly use full throttle on the road for more than a couple of seconds, then yes, you probably can't. That's only one way to drive a car. It's nice to drive along briskly, knowing that there is a ton more power available if the situation should arrive.
Secondly, the more recent Ferraris - F430, 612 , 599 - and even more so the 458, FF and California (because of the DSG rather than the automated manual) are all known for their tractability. Something more like a 911 Turbo S. So this new car is going to be remarkable looking, an N/A V12, the most powerful unmodified (road at least) Ferrari to date, tractable and hence fairly useable at modest throttle openings, and with the new-found Ferrari build quality. Surely, this is something to be celebrated before every road car is a 500mpg tool controlled from space from a satellite?

Looks like a 599 with excellent wheels from that picture. I have to say that I really hope it's a looker as bar the FF, Ferraris of late have been awful to look at.
Sir is pulling one's leg, surely? I mean, I'm all for diversity of opinion and whatnot, but........ confused

I recently saw a 458 in a yellow black combo that was a hommage to the 212 Inter "bumblebee". Looked absolutely stunning. And about other Ferrari designs, unlike most cars Ferrari designs seem to get better with age. When the 550 came out press comment was poor about its looks. A mate then even referred to my 550 as my Supra. Years later the 550 just gets more elegant, beautiful even as time passes. The 599 in the right colour is also ageing well. I think Ferrari deliberately challenge design convention. Look at the DB9. Painfully pretty but fast becoming boring. Part of Aston's problem is their cars are stuck with the same look so each iteration is a play on the previous. Ferrari kind of says crap to that, here's something fresh and challenging for you punters to chew on. And tough if it gives you indigestion. A few miss the mark but majority will age brilliantly.

I'm far from a Ferrari fan and I'll never own one just because they "don't do it for me". Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to live in a world where they don't exist.

But I have to agree that the Italians can get it right, especially with Ferrari. Some of them are spot on, but most of them age like no other. I like the Diablo, probably more than any Ferrari, but it's not really beautiful and didn't age half as good as any of the contemporary Ferraris.

They are both awful imo. Can't see either of them ageing well.

458 is gorgeous IMO and a return to form for Ferrari after the 430, 599.

FF does nothing for me as a styling or engineering excercise. Seen a couple on the road in London and barely worthy of a second glance. Sounded lovely, but that was about it.

Looks to much like the kind of dreadful "shooting brake" Astons/Ferrari's that the Sultan of Brunei used to have made to order for him.

Churlish to the extreme - the 458 could never be described as awful.

Styling is very subjective. Personally I really dislike the look of it - the badly fitting bonnet, the creases in the bonnet, those little foreplane type things in the front bumper, the rear bumper shape, the rear lights yuck

It's just far too fussy imo. The comparatively simplistic shape of the MP4-12C is far more appealing to me.

All the words in the piece seem odd. It's as if they were written by someone for whom English is a second language. I'm not being churlish, just not sure what it means to say a car 'takes its bow'.

Engine sounds nice though.

Each to their own with regards to styling as you say. I personally find the MP4 a bit dull to look at (have seen a couple in the flesh now in dark and light colours) and lacking any real WOW factor.

Now the GT3 version is another thing entirely yum

Looking at your profile that's a strong statement about the 458 Dave.

Give us your thought's on what constitutes a 'looker'.

Might just be me but Ferrari have released an awful lot of new cars in the past few years, more than ever before. I guess there is enough demand but it seems like they re-design a new one every few months, F430/599 seem out-of-date now

F430 had a 5 year lifespan. The 599 has been going for 5-6.

As did the 355, 360, 550, 575.....

They have added the California to their usual 3 car lineup though.
