I've got PDK on the Cayman with shift controls on the steering wheel.

This is so much fun - like driving a race car - I don't want a manual again, thanks.

I love the colour. Glad to see red making a return, seems like more and more press cars are red (or burgundy), I've missed all the red of the 80s! Was worried Brown was going to be the new White, keep up the fight for Red!
Burgundy was in favour in the 90's too - Arena Red Pearlescent, as per the UK launch 993 Turbo, on my C4S.

Thank goodness Manure Brown was 'not' back in fashion then :-)

Oh by the way its a manual too, to join in with the theme !

The 991 really does look lovely in profile. Nice to see a manual too. No idea what I would have tbh if I were ever lucky enough to afford one, never driven a dual-clutch before, but at least Porsche still offer their customers both options smile

Looks good in red, back is quite ugly imo, and front looks exactly the same as the 997, course this is evolution by Porsche wink

I don't see the issue with brown cars, far more interesting that the silver/grey & black cars that litter our roads.

Mmmmm great; at last something other than PDK / semi-autos
Is it as slick as the DBS manual; the smoothest most slick
manual i have ever driven and the way things are going, ever will

+1 It looks utterly terrible imo

If I ever got one id be removing the 'porsche' part
This will go the same way as the 996 once the media hype goes away. Yes it might be a little faster by 0.whatever seconds but the car is ugly. The 993 and 997 were much better proportioned.

Utterly pointless.
You could say that of any sports car, let alone a gearbox.

Which is why Porsche should be applauded for catering for drivers who still appreciate the tactility and skill involved in driving a proper three-pedal H-gated manual.
Kazlet posts negative one liners on just about every Porsche thread in general gassing, the hate is strong with him.

Yay! Red is back!smokin

It might be just my imagination though but the "Guards Red" in those pictures looks a shade or two darker than the 80s version?

I've only driven a 997 Turbo, 6-speeder in that was really, very nice, I'd give many things to drive a new 991 PDK & 7-speeder back to back right now...

Thanks. smile As you say, 3 seconds on Google turns up those sort of images (and I wouldn't have expected them to put 7th anywhere else other than next to 5th!) but they don't clarify the actual mechanism. Is is a push-down type arrangement for 7th (as seems to be the norm for reverse on a 6 speed 'box) or is it a case of different levels of resistance? Even videos like this one don't clarify that detail.
Quick search on Youtube came up with THIS, if it's any help?

colour balance in those photos is off, and they look a tad underexposed, hence slightly dark.

I've driven a manual 997 Turbo and a PDK Boxster (as well as various other 5 and 6 speed manual and tiptronic models) but not the 7-speed manual unfortunately. I've always found that there's a level of intuition (for lack of a better word) present when using a manual 'box that just doesn't exist with a PDK (or any other manually controlled 'automatic'). I always found myself failing to remember the last gear I'd selected and having to glance down at the gear indicator as well in case the controller had decided to change gear on my behalf. With a manual, it's almost like your hand remembers the last gear selected! Does that sound too wobble?

Thanks for that. smile Unfortunately, the guy needs to be speaking German at about 100th of the speed for me to have any hope of keeping up. It did appear though that 7th wasn't particularly easy to select. That's obviously on the strength of watching a single gear change but I don't have anything else to go on at the moment... scratchchin

Typical Germans give you a manual box then sneek in unnerving electric power steering, bit of an own goal if you ask me
