It is no doubt a little more capable than where it will be used 99.999999999% of the time and I've no time for the ridiculous lifestyle statement that these 'll be used for but I have no doubt it'll sell very well with Mrs 'Lady that Lunches'

Could be quite fun (in 4x4 trim) on the beach and modest rough stuff.

Whoa....unless this comes with an electric retractabl roof or a man-servant, ain't no laydeez going to be struggling with a roof the size of a marquee.

I have no doubt, the roof 'll be more electric than Barbie's choice of transport. smile

Well it does at least partly solve the major problem with the Evoque, which is that it looks utterly ridiculous, like an elephant had sat heavily on an RR Sport and squashed hell out of it's roof Sadly of course once the convertible's roof is up then it too will look like a bad joke.

I cant wait until someone goes off road in one with the roof down, gets stuck in the mud and covers everyone in mud! lol

I like it but wouldnt drive one.

The wife on the other hand will probably love it.
And why not it ticks a lot of boxes for them.

Two box cabrio, won't ever work styling wise.

It'll sell well. I don't like it, it's now a blinged up Freelander with the roof cut off.

I love the Evoque, a really good sleek trendy modern design for the fashion conscious if you ask me. I'm afraid this whole concept just doesn't work for me. I think you'd look a bit of a tit driving one along with the roof down.

Given, that UK PLC need manufacturing to dig us out of this financial black hole we are in, I hope it is a success and that our friends across the pond buy it in droves, California in particular. JLR should be getting Mrs Beckham to drive an Evoque convertible down Rodeo Drive, everyday for a month. Watch the sales takeoff.
Remember how most men hated the Mini convertible, looked like a pram, well most women loved it and they do buy a lot of cars.
It might not be aimed at most petrolheads, but then again most motorists aren't petrolheads and most men aren't into fashion and this is a fashion vehicle. Range Rover already have the Sport in this market, many loath it for what it represents, but hey Range Rover make money on it.

It will sell well as usual, even though it just looks like a bath tub on wheels.
No accounting for taste though.

Mark I GTI?

(Having said that, in THIS instance, try to imagine how the top would work - they would have a near impossible task to get it to look even reasonable).

Should it come to fruition i can see it breaking the record for being the convertible mostly driven with the roof up, certainly here in Britain.

Possibly.

I envisage a skip-lorry arms mechanism that lifts the entire roof and swings it back and deposits it on a folowing "support" vehicle.

Brilliant. Take a car with really poor visibility and give it even less rear visibility.
