RE: Range Rover Evoque Convertible revealed
Discussion
From Motorsport Magazine this month:
"Had a quick and impromtu tour around the Jaguar and Rover Engineering Centre in Whitley. The company doesn;t make enough noise about this place. There sit 3000 engineers beavering away at technologies that won't be seen in cars for years. In another area are the design studios where cars like the Land Rover Evoque and the Jaguar E-type's successor have been brought to life. Their biggest difficulty? Getting enough quality engineers as the company's ambitions spiral outwards. Amid all the economic doom and gloom, its refreshing to see a company with such a bright outlook."
Reading all the po-faced comments on here makes me rather sad. Who's actually sat in an Evoque, let driven one? Why are the British no longer proud of the few things that we actually do well?

Given, that UK PLC need manufacturing to dig us out of this financial black hole we are in, I hope it is a success and that our friends across the pond buy it in droves, California in particular. JLR should be getting Mrs Beckham to drive an Evoque convertible down Rodeo Drive, everyday for a month. Watch the sales takeoff.
Remember how most men hated the Mini convertible, looked like a pram, well most women loved it and they do buy a lot of cars.
It might not be aimed at most petrolheads, but then again most motorists aren't petrolheads and most men aren't into fashion and this is a fashion vehicle. Range Rover already have the Sport in this market, many loath it for what it represents, but hey Range Rover make money on it.
Everything this guy said is true. Especially the bit in bold.Remember how most men hated the Mini convertible, looked like a pram, well most women loved it and they do buy a lot of cars.

I'm sorry but this is appalling looking vehicle and along with the Evoque proper is not an example of the British doing something well but an example of the British prostituting their normally high standards of design to appeal to Sun readers. Maybe, but if it makes money and keeps a few thousand workers at JLR in jobs, whilst boosting the economy, why is it a problem? You don't have to buy it. Business is all about supply and demand. Land Rover have clearly identified the demand for such a car. It will be successful, most likely in a number of countries, and that is something to be proud of.

So, should they make something that doesn't sell just to keep with the tradition?Edited by MSTRBKR on Monday 27th February 17:22

Expect to see these "starring" in episodes of The Only Way Is Essex, Geordie Shore, Katie Price etc etc
Comments like this I find amusing. My guess is that you only care or know because you keep track of such things? On the subject of the Evoque, albeit slightly off topic, i was in Cheltenham today & spied a white four door Evoque which looked really good.
It appeared to be a standard car with the exeception of the engine note which sounded rather like a petrol V8.
Havent read anything about a V8 version - anyone heard of one being developed or does anyone have any knowledge of a V8 being dropped in the engine bay to be evaluated?

George Micheal crashing gis car whilst drunk or stoned, usually in the latest LR is hard to miss on front page of the tabloids. It is a car with help designing it by posh spice, who else would it appeal to.?
