RE: Range Rover Evoque Convertible revealed
Discussion
I think it looks hideous, but from a commercial point of view, you can't fault JLR. This is exactly the sort of thing the market wants now; a pointless, bling, flashy thing to prance about in.
The 2wd Auto Diesel in recession white on finance with the biggest wheels will be the biggest sellers.
Or perhaps in 2012 "brown".
As a business, they got it right.
Now I wait for Porsche to release the equivalent rebadged Tiguan and sell even more.

It's a soft top roof, not a folding hard top cc.

It is a car with help designing it by posh spice, who else would it appeal to.?
Please stop!Mrs Beckham had no hand in the design of this car! (Although rumour is she may in the future put her name to some special edition seats for the ladies).
The Evoque was designed by Gerry McGovern, a great British designer who is also the man behind the Freelander 1 and .....your MGF, both fantastic best sellers in their day.
When asking who a McGovern design appeals to, it seems that you're already in the club

I dont mind the looks actually...
Interestingly though, I just sent my mrs the pics expecting her to say wow! I want I want... she said 'yuk, needs to be a 4x4 OR a convertible'
I think she is wrong and this will sell like hot cakes.
In principle, what is the different between this and something like a Freelander Cabrio or Defender Cabrio? OK, the target group might be a little different and not fit the typical profile of a PistonHeads member, but conceptually, this is the same as the Freelander Cabrio or Defender Cabrio. Just replace some of the jewelry and put normal size wheels on it and I'm sure it will get back some of what we consider to be street cred.

the difference is the above 2 are used to stand in the back with a guni like it, it will NEVER see any mud but still nice and will sell
not in the same class but the list of cabrio 4x4s is endless even pajeros came with a softy (pretty rare tho)
Well I know my wife will love this (but I have just sent her the link to test it out anyway) but she already has a MINI Cooper S Convertible and a RR Sport - I know, I know what am I thinking of - but this will be the best of both worlds for her, and all of her mates.
JLR have played a blinder as like most people on here I think it will fly out the door, unfortunately lads us Piston Heads are in the minority when it come to opinions on cars like this. I wouldn't buy one for myself but I know a few who will, for their wives.

Sent the pictures to my wife and she replied better than the hardtop evoque, how much?
JLR job done, you have an instant hit with at least one woman in Britain, now can you price it to be a step up from the Mini convertible, rather than a quantum leap.
That's the potential market, the women who have owned Mini convertibles who want something slightly bigger and upmarket, but not german (a3, bmw1)

I have to say, that particular photo has changed my mind. It's rather handsome. LR would be fools not to sell this. As far as I'm concerned it's done and dusted and dealers should start taking orders.
my wife has just seen it and thinks it looks amazing. roll on 3/4 years time when they will have hopefully depreciated like a stone (i actually don't think that will be the case and they'll hold their value very well).Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
