RE: PH Blog: back from the magistrates
Discussion
Just got pulled over today.
There was a crackdown opp in Erith/ Kent.
My car was shown uninsured on the system. I told the copper the system must be wrong as I have just moved my insurance on to this car couple of days ago.
The copper reply 'The system is never wrong'
So than I have to do all the calling to prove the car was insured, and at the same time he's getting a back up unit to get ready to seize my car.
He was quite disappointed when he had finish talking to the insurance company.
What do I get for their error? He told me to carry an insurance doc at all time, and told me my tax is running out end of the month!

The DVLA is totally useless, their whole system is designed for cars that live their whole lives on that little island over the channel from Europe, a person who lives in three countries ( but only for a few months each) boggles their mind. Example, an Englishman drives a landrover to Capetown South Africa and back in a journey that takes over two years, the system for MOT, SORN etc. cannot cope even though any competent broker can insure you for the trip.
The DVLA (plus ANPR) is enough to make anyone emigrate.
My 911 is old enough to have the black stick on number plate on the sloping bonnet, how good is ANPR?

I didn't get the anti-Harris opinions expressed by some here but I can't agree with this. I am left wondering if it's an advertorial. Surely PH should be starting some campaign where those that have their cars incorrectly seized due to MID errors get some kind of recompense. When the authorities are relying so heavily on systems that can't be wrong (45 minutes anyone) rather than using their god given brains or some level of intelligence or thought then there should be a procedure where the victims of the authorities getting it wrong get compensated.
'Where there's blame, there's a claim'?
When the authorities get it wrong then those inconvenienced should get compensated and a process for it to happen should be easy.
If the police can have systems to sell on the details of those that may be harmed in car accidents so they can claim for their live altering whiplash injuries then it should be pretty easy to set up a system to compensate those that have their vehicles incorrectly seized.
Where does 'The computer can't be wrong, you're guilty' and not compensating those that are incorrectly inconvenienced sit with any initiative within the police to put their hands up and say 'we got it wrong there' rather than being in denial and initiating cover ups like a driver trying to sidestep a NIP by saying their long lost foreign best mate was driving their car that day?
Sort it out.
MID can't be wrong? Just like Saddam's nukes eh and shutting cases investigating links between the Met and News International?
'MID can't be wrong'? It's just going to alienate the law abiding voters and tax payers just as 'Speed Kills' and the police being in the pocket of Murdoch does. Do yourselves s favour and apply some reason to the system.

I am not sure where being guilty until proven otherwise sits with the fighting we've done in Afghanistan and Iraq in the name of democracy and freedom?
England can be devolved from this second rate facsimile of the former Eastern Bloc?
I'm not sure where being all but convicted of driving uninsured sits with being accused of being possessed by evil spirits really?

Exactly, you should be able to phone up a no win no fee lawer and sue both the police force who incorrectly impound a vehicle (they can recover these costs from the DVLA personally, i'm not going to do their job for them) and the DVLA for a minimum of £5000 a piece. That'd make sure the system bloody works. 'Where there's blame, there's a claim'?

I had a girlfriend who'd been stung twice by her insurers (direct line) not taking the direct debit and cancelling the policy without informing her of them having done it. Of course to the police shes a repeat uninsured offendor now and gets pulled over regually becuase of some cocksucker who cba to do their job properly.
Speaking of direct line the old mans had a spot of trouble with them repeatedly sending letters claiming not to have recieved his NCB proof, the first couple of times he got the letter come through he phoned them up and they confirmed they actually did have his NCB proof, got another identicle letter this week, phones them up and they're now claiming they dont have it and never did. Hes sent it to them about 4 times now.
No apology from them at all, no attempt made at righting the situation, it is faceless people like this who should be forced to pay out for crass incompetence.
In todays world somebody is always accountable for a failing. Seek that person out and make them pay. No excuses.

I'm not sure you could sue the Police for acting lawfully, or the DVLA for doing the same.
If your insurer failed to act in adding your details to the MIB database in reasonable time, causing you to be pulled over, you couldn't reasonably give the Police reassurance to your insured status by the roadside and then your car was impounded, causing you a loss, maybe there's a case to recover your losses from them?

When this article appeared last week I checked my cars and my GT3 was shown as not insured. Contacted broker who informed me that the database has some problems, they would remove vehicle and resend info so it should appear the next day. Checked the next day still nothing, so got back to them, they did the same again and by Monday mid morning the car now shows up as being insured.
As HAVOC said earlier will the police take a paper copy of your insurance certificate as being valid as it could have been cancelled?
Seems a very flawed system!!
