Think these are quite nice, they Chavs have moved to E46's now but any M3 if kept standard and un-ruined can still look quite classy, depends on surroundings, however nice, if you put it on a manky estate, on a grim day and fill it with shaven headed cro-magnons it will look low rent, put it in front of a nice house or a country pub with a normal person driving, devoid of Sovereign rings and it just looks like an older, probably enthusiast owned M3, very rich people sometimes just hang onto cars.

Do you mean hardtop? Is does make a big difference.

I'll just put this here...

Does the hardtop improve the dynamics at all? Make it any stiffer?

A completely unmodified e36 M3 is as close to "cool" as it can get, but I don't think any M3 is cool. Great car, doubtless, but not cool. Any modifications and it's chav I'm afraid.

The question is, do you care?

I would love an M3, but I would be tempted to do the opposite of most of the modifiers and get the normal mirrors and BBS and make it look like a 328 Sport!

I struggle with the convertible, I love the wind in my hair, but you know it's not as good as the tintop, and there's always something a little "Nazi staff car" about a German 4-seater convertible...

I don't think it's cool, but I don't think its chav either. Unless being a cheap, desirable performance car makes something "chav" because poor, young people who like performance cars can afford to buy them. See also Impreza Turbo.

Chav? Definitely not. But cool? Not in Estoril Blue IMO, the coupe only just manages to carry off Estoril Blue, the convertibles look far too sunglasses+bluetoothearpiece in Estoril. Oxford Green or Technoviolet/Throbber, or Black would be pretty cool IMO.

I'll always always prefer the coupes though.

You are, of course, referring to visual modifications....

Coolish, but still emerging from nagging chavdom.

It does make it better, not as good as a real roof but you definitely notice a difference when it's on. smile

Wow, it's it was 50-50.

I'm probably biased, but I think the E36 M3 'verts are lovely cars. They look like chav cars mainly because they look "identical" (to non-PH folks) to the 318is powersliding round Halfords, collecting all the tat on the shelves.

Anyway, man logic should prevail and you should say the dealer's throwing in a free Louis Vitton handbag or something wink

E36 M3 Convertible? Buy one of these and you're just denying people who drive proper E36 M3s a valuable source of parts.

i wouldnt be surprised if the general public viewed it as chav but for so many people to view an M3 (any M3) as chav on an enthusuaists forum is quite sad imho.

If anything I'd consider the E46 cab more chavvy...
