It had the Panda 4x4 carb' (torque jetted) and Punto 75 cam' so was probably around the 65-70 bhp mark. On a 126 gear box with rally (noisy) diff'. The bike engine ones are okay on the track but next to useless on the road. With this set up you had plenty or torque for hills and traffic, reverse gear that doesn't involve flattening a battery and in a weekend you can put the original engine back. Similar to the 126 and 850 engine transplants back in the day. Gave the car modern performance, practicality and didn't ruin the overall appeal of the car.

It's a nice conversion and the Aluminium Fire engine doesn't weigh much more than the standard pig iron one.

There are a couple of outlaw 500 and 600's with Alfa and Subaru Boxer engines. For me though if I had a good 126 (I wouldn't do it to a 500) I'd opt for either a triple or V-twin engine. Less all or nothing than the four pots and the kit car boys haven't driven the prices sky high yet.

Pig Iron ?


The 500 engine is an all ally casting for the block with Steel cylinder barrels and topped off with a an aluminium cylinder head.

I really shouldnt know all this....

It depends on the dog and what he or she has been trained to do. Most training is done around play so it's easy to modify behavior to suit a domestic environment. There is a a great demand for ex-service dogs and ones who either don't make the cut or are budgeted out of the service so it's incredibly rare for a home not to be found. Even then they end up with volunteers like me until they can be homed instead of being put in shelters or kennels.

Cheers. We are looking to re-home a dog when we move into a house (in a flat at moment). We thought that an ex-service dog, maybe a failed training dog would be good as they would be from good stock and checked for health issues, as well as behaviour being known. Probably looking more towards the Springers although we quite like German Shepherds too. Couldn't find info on the local police force's website.

No problem at all. Service dogs can be hard work as they're used to a certain level of attention but it's so worth while. Especially when you go out and they give you "the look" as you walk past someone. The sheer panic in their face usually followed by "are you an off duty copper mate?" never gets old.

How about a guide dog? Usually Lab's and also very well trained in a more domestic environment so less re-training would be required.

Near King's Lynn. I used to get dogs from Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire constabulary. The armed forced dogs are via a friend (who can not be named).

I'm not a fan of the MR2, it feels bigger softer and doesn't have the rawness of the X-1/9. Also not taking anything away from the MR2 engine they are robust and tunable but it doesn't sound as good behind you.
