With the 991 becoming more and more of a "supercar" and less "sports car" I think the Boxster is now my favourite Porsche, Ive always loved it and think this one looks absolutely stunning!

Current Cayman is heavier than equivalent 987 and it has higher COG which negates any (not even crucial) torsional stiffness gains.

Can you see the problem in that pic? The wheel arches are larger than before
Can you detect that by eye or do you know that for a fact?

To me, the Boxster has always been the best convertible Porsche produce (bar the CGT, of course). The 981 seems to be set to repeat this achievement. Now they should produce another Spyder version and I could be tempted to get a fourth car...

I don't think the 991 is any more 'supercar' than the 997, it's just more expensive. Porsche doesn't do supercars apart from their 959s, Carrera GTs, 918s etc ...

Both the 991 and Boxster are great but I believe the best cars Porsche produce are the GT3 variants.

Strange, I thought Toyota got a bit of flack for the MR2 Roadster being a bit like the last Boxster and now the Boxster seems to be referencing the MR2 Roadster.

Yes they did a copy-paste trick previously with roof and that is not right.

I read it real good.

Another great write up by the monkey.

And what a good definition of steering feel.

Keep up the good work Chris.

So it appears Porsche have swapped function for fashion with the moronic drug dealer wheels on the new Boxter.

I really enjoyed Chris's article. It was most insightful and entertaining. I always enjoyed his writing in Autocar and never really understood why he became such a controversial figure (to some anyway).

Porsche has always been an engineering led company, so I'm always fascinated to see what updates they've applied to their latest model. It would appear that they've done it again with the new Boxster, better in every measurable way, but possibly lacking that last emotional 'something'.

However, that's not the real reason I would never buy one, not even a second hand one(which I could just afford!). For me the problem with the Boxster is it's origin and more particularly the name itself.

I can just imagine the committee of marketing men gathered around a table in the early nineties in their smart suits, drinking something 'frothy' from dainty little cups, when some bright spark suggested melding the words 'boxer' and 'roadster', to be met by simultaneous back slapping and nodding of heads.

The very name 'roadster' sends shivers down my spine - a kind of American open top 'sporty' car with vague 'Indy' overtones? Whenever I hear that word I always think of the the MGB. When it was first shown in 1962 it was a beautifully simple, elegant looking sports car with ample performance for the time. Fast forward to the end of its life and it had become a hideous, underpowered, jacked up monstrosity, prostituted for the U.S market. It had also, somehow, gained the new title of 'roadster' along the way too.

The Boxster is, of course, a far more accomplished car than the MGB ever was, or was intended to be despite being classed as a 'roadster' from the start. However, the image of women of a certain age and/or shouty types wearing red braces (you know who they are) driving these cars around (badly) just won't leave my head.

Anyway 'rant' over - the car saved the company, so what do I know...
Um... Boxster is an amalgamation of boxer and speedster.

Not aware that Porsche has ever used the word 'Roadster'.

See, once someone puts something on Wikipedia it becomes the truth hehe

<Wiki says:> The Boxster's name is a portmanteau of the word "boxer", referring to the vehicle's horizontally opposed or "boxer" engine, and the word "roadster", referring to the vehicle's two-seat capacity and convertible top.

Did you configure an S for less than £50k or go for the 2.7?

"So what's the problem?"

Reading comp issue. Try to read the evo 911 issue and see if you can perceive the counterpoint on these new porsche's. Don't worry it is a bit difficult for many so its nothing on you personally, j

I really like it.

I'd love a Cayman in Gulf colours, black interior and black 19" wheels. Then I wouldn't clean it for a year to give it the authentic racehorse look.

"the infernal electronic handbrake. It's completely counter-intuitive in a three-pedal machine, it will only engage with the foot-brake pressed."

Great - now to dazzle drivers behind with your brake lights whilst sat in a queue you no longer need to be a moron, you just have to drive a Porsche rolleyes
