Stay with it thought to ensure they don't try and move it. like this OP, still no offer? Thanks Edo... They have offered to replace my car, like for like. However, they tell me they can't find any so I listed half a dozen, all available at local dealers. They want to give me £7.5k for mine but this is around £1.5-£2k less than similar models at those dealers - am I expected to pay the difference??!! I will not 'cut my losses' as was suggested by the dealer, because I feel, if anything, I should be recompensed for the 14+ times it's been back to the dealers and for my 4 years of battling. So if anything, I feel I should be entitled to a replacement, regardless of the difference in what they are willing to pay for mine... Let's not forget I had no courtesy car for up to 2 weeks at a time (sometimes) while my car was in their garage, and I have retained my personal plate for almost 3 years. I will also be a second owner, no first, of any replacement car... I would never buy another Mazda! To be honest, I'm not that keen on taking a replacement, where would I take it for servicing??? Don't think I could walk back in that dealership Couldnt agree more. Keep pushing - make sure everyone in Mazda UK and the dealer hears from you by phone, letter and email regularly, and explain you will start charging them for every communication you have to make. I always had great experiences with Mazda when I had them - great dealers usually, but this has painted them in a poor light. The cost of giving you slightly newer car is nothing compared with the bad press they are receiving on here and elsewhere. Keep pushing!

Have just read the whole thread and whilst it is disgusting treatment and a very poor show from Mazda, it doesn't surprise me. I also had problems with them, although very much on a lower scale than yours.
My RX8 made a clonking sound (when I had it a few years ago) I researched the problem myself and the car was 3.5 years old and had done 14,000 miles. This particular problem was a recall in the USA, in England it wasn't. The dealer refused to sort it for me for free even though I had the recall paperwork printed off and gave it to the dealership, they just looked at me baffled. When I spoke to the "manager" he also refused and said they could look at it but wouldn't sort it even though it was a USA recall. He even accused me of making up the recall paperwork even though it was plastered all over the owners club!
Anyway after 3 visits and a lot of arguments, I took it home and decided to take the task on myself. Only took about two hours to fix on my driveway. Why the dealership couldn't have done this I don't know, however in my experience their staff are rude, not at all knowledgeable, ignorant and not very pleasant people!
I hope you manage to get your situation sorted. They are taking the biscuit asking you to pay the different for a replacement!

Here's another approach you could take - turn up at the Mazda UK head office and ask to speak to the head of after sales. Refuse to move from reception until you get an audience with him or her.

Recalls in USA and UK are different and can't be carried out in the same way. The dealer could have done the work, but MazdaUK wouldn't pay as its not a recall here.. So that's understandable. What was the fault in the end?

And I know they've seen this thread Not sure what, short of the 'peaceful' gathering or the signwriting, will make them do the right thing?!

Hi mstet Please forgive a bit of straight talking, it may be what's needed. I think you need a very clear desired solution to present to them. At the moment to be honest I'm not sure what you really want as its clouded by a lot of issues such as the hassle you've been through and a little bit of "I'm entitled aren't ... I?" As I said in my email to you, the cleanest resolution I had when I had an issue with a 'lemon' car was that I sold it trade and received an ex gratia without prejudice contribution from the manufacturer on top. I suggest you look at what would be acceptable to you (irrelevant of what you think you may be entitled to and what hardship you've been through) and what may be palatable to them. My suggestion (and broad asumption) is that, if today your car was absolutely fine and you had confidence in it going forward, you would be 'happy'. As such find out what the trade value of your car is, by getting a few quotes (the £7500 mentioned earlier?). Find out what the dealer markup would be (after negotiation) so say £1250? Then ask simply for one of two options: A) they take your car and give you £8750 in full and final settlement B) you sell your car trade, give them a copy of the receipt and ask for £1250 ex gratia payment in full and final settlement. At least then they have a clear yes or no. And hopefully will realise that £1250 in full and final is better than an unhappy customer and a forum full of bad publicity. Hope it helps. It might not be your ideal solution but I think you need to compromise to get resolution and move on. Cheers Andy

Andy Hey Bolshy, Thank you for this. I probably have been a bit erratic in my postings, usually after yet another empty promise or another unnacceptable offer. I guess the point I am trying to make is that I agreed to a like for like replacement. I thought that was it, they would source me one. However, the main discussions revolve around the Mazda race team buying mine. Their first offer was £6250 with no mention of my replacement. The offer was upped to £6.5 then £7k. This was because I pointed out that I would not be able to buy replacement with so little. They have never offered me another car and at no time have they offered to pay the difference. Last week I did exactly as you suggested, I sent them an email outlining what would be acceptable, a time frame and I identified 6 similar cars, all of which I would accept and all local to their HQ. I even offered to travel to Dartford and hand mine over just to get a resolution. I actually don't care what the Mazda race team want to pay for or do with my car, my only interest is my replacement, and I will not 'cut my losses' any more, I think what I have been trying to say is that in the last 4 years, I have more than taken a loss already... I have been very clear about what I want, and I don't for a minute, think I am being unreasonable
