I've seen one and didn't like it, I don't share the excitment these 'coupes' seem to create with many. Admittedly, I doubt it's meant to appeal to me, just shouts 'compromise'.

The only PH-worthy Hyundai is the Genesis, which will seemingly never make it to these shores officially.

isn't that the case with *all* coupes though? very few coupes genuinely offer something above the 4 door equivilent - only 'proper' sports cars really do that

ie - the a5 isn't better in any way than the a4
6 series bimmer isn't better than the 5 series
e class coupe isn't better than the e class
mini coupe isn't better than the mini
scirocco isn't better than a golf

they just look better and have less room at the back smile

Saw one in the metal recently (on a very anonymous display in the SECC). I was... underwhelmed for some reason. Maybe that nose needs some work.

That is partly my point, I don't particularly like any of those you mention although they do mostly look better than the Hyundai. I am not massively bothered about aesthetics but I don't want a slightly sqaushed hatchback.

This is why I am (on principle while having not driven one) a big fan of the GT86.

Shame they don't make a quick one, could have been a good proposition for me then.
Anyone know if they have plans to make a hot version?

I believe there's meant to be a 1.6 Turbo version, around 200bhp and 200lb/ft.

I saw one of these at the NEC on Sunday, and it's a stunning car in the flesh. It has alot of presence, shame they failed on a few bits.

Couldn't be more wrong
Couldn't be more correct

Designed by an 8 year old.....mmmmm nice fake bonnet vents in black plastic.
Built for people under 5'6' - I am 6ft and cannot sit in any of the seats without my head pressing on the roof lining.

bad bad bad, just so bad

It's funny that isn't it? I think it looks like an absolutely steaming contrived mess in pictures, but I saw a black one on the road last week, and remember seeing the wide front and thinking 'phwoar, what's that?' - it's got premise. I do wish this silly convention of calling swoopy front wheel drive hatchbacks 'coupes' would end though. Something like a Honda Integra is a coupe - it has a discernable boot.

Come on! - really? For a weak 140bhp tatty made Korean tin box that WILL UNEQUIVOCALLY depreciate to absolutely NOTHING within 3 years?

yes
I'd put a bet on Hyundai/Kia being one of the biggest, if not the biggest car company in the world one day.

Open my eyes to what? A hideous car made by a company that will never have enough brand strength to maintain value?

If it was rare and ACTUALLY sporty it might have a fighting chance of being worth more than a packet of peanuts by the time the first MOT is due. But it'll be mass produced and bettered by numerous other vehicles.

And if this, the 140bhp version comes in at £23k how much is the rumoured turbo version going to cost?
You could go and buy an RS Focus for not a lot more and that's an exceptionally good car that will hardly depreciate.

This Hyundai, at the money they want, makes less sense than a holiday home Afghanistan.

Y'know, I'm pretty sure I can remember people saying pretty much the same sort of thing about cars like the Toyota Celica back in the early-to-mid '70s - a low budget utility car for the uninterested was one thing but any kind of aspirational performance car? Never!...

I don't see anyone questioning the viability of Nissan, Honda, or Mazda's brands in this sort of market sector today and while the Veloster's clearly not quite hacking it yet in some areas it looks like a damned good try and suggests that the Koreans are if anything catching on to what buyers outside their home markets want, expect, and value rather quicker than the Japanese did!

You might not like the design but doesn't mean the cars are not made well...the i10 and the i30 both scored in the top 3 in their class on last years JD power survey. I don't like them personally, but you have to be objective about the quality of their cars.

Over priced piece of tatt.

Whilst I initially thought this looked good I could never imagine handing over hard earned cash for a Hyundai! I must be the stereotypical brand snob eh.

What is the price of the vauxhal GTC?

it's a very nice looking piece of kit especialy in metalic green smile but yes it does sting having to pay so much for a Korean car. I would probably go for something else if i were in the market

However because of the 5 year warrenty Hyundais' seem to hold their value.

Keep it for 3 years then sell with 2 years manufactureres warrenty. Cant do that with a renault frown

All you guys talking of values drpping to nothing please find me a i40 or an IX35 1.5-2 years old diesel.
Cheers.

Could someone please explain to me why this car costs over £22,000? I'm not normally the sort of person who complains about new car prices but this is crazy pricing. A much more powerful MINI Cooper S is £4,000 cheaper!

Couldn't be more wrong

I second that. Last summer we were looking to move from a well cared for Mini Cooper to a SUV and like most looked at a Kuga, Tiguan and a few others around the £22k mark, but then I found this mini version of an Audi Q7 staring at me out of advertisements and so expecting to be unimpressed went to look at the new Sportage. It looked stunning to me and made the Kuga (up until then quite bold in appearance) seem very average!

So I took the wife along and she loved it too, which was a surprise as she would be the main driver. We took out a 1.7 CRDi which again I thought would be dead slow but it was far from it, with gear ratios making the most of the power, and much livelier than a 1.5DCi Qashqai I had driven a few years ago. We settled on a Sportage "3" 1.7 CRDi with stop/start for £22.5k, and frankly haven't looked back.

The standard kit is amazing, - twin glass sunroofs (front sliding and tilting), auto lights, wipers, mirrors, heated front AND rear seats, leather, cruise control, etc etc. I worked out that a similarly specced up Kuga would be £26k, and a Mini Countryman £28k - and some of the features weren't available at all. While the plasics are not up to leading class standards, after 7,000 miles averaging 48 mpg there is not a single creak or rattle. Nothing has worn out and every feature and function performs as it should. Oh, the sweep of the wipers across the screen could be quicker. Big deal.

In context, I have a lease car which I do 30k miles a year. My '08 520d had a creaking dash and rattle under the passenger seat that the dealer never managed to fix, and the front had to be resprayed as the lacquer peeled off the bumper, bonnet, wings and drivers door. That was replaced in Feb '11 by a Scirocco GT TDi 170 when a colleague left and I took over the lease. The tyres roar on most surfaces, the boot rattles, the rear seats rattle, and there is excessive wind noise around the windows. Throwing the car around a good B road soon wears off when the daily commute on the M4 leaves me tired, yet the Kia couldn't be more relaxing to drive, and while the VW is a pretty quick car (but a mere toy compared to my DVA'd Caterham 7!), I have grown to favour the Sportage.

Highly recommended, and becoming increasingly popular. If you said I would have been saying that about a Kia this time last year I would have laughed. But the Veloster desperately needs a diesel in it...

Looks ok and I think Hyundai are doing good things, but it looks like the dash was nicked from a Focus.
Not the fiesta wink but you're right, currently got a new focus with work, looked at one (ford/hyundai dealer) when mine went in for a service, it's like a carbon copy! (replaced carbon for cheap ass plastic)

Just looks odd to me, and had no idea how much they were, christ! Can't get on with the actual 3 door 3dr thing either, my OCD goes nuts.
