So the question is Mr Garlik, which would win your heart your TVR with the BMW V8 or the Morgan with the same engine?
Gosh tough question. At the moment I'm having a passionate affair with a Morgan while my 'lady' is away. Come Saturday when I collect the TVR I'll remember EXACTLY why we're so well suited and will feel guilty.
............I might occasionally text the minx the Morgan though, just for a little longer.
I've owned many M cars from BMW mostly with the straight 6 and I love them making revs...
Then I also have owned 2 TVR's with Rover V8, a V8S and a Griffith 4.3 BV
I really loved that sound when cruising our flooring it
But...that rover V8 had a very short power band? and so I missed the reving way of the BMW engine...
also the TVR's were a bit scary at very high spoeeds...and the BMW was not so.
Then I bought the Hartge Z3 Coupe 5.0, because I was hooked on the V8 (TVR) sound but also on the reving way the M straight 6 were doing.
The Hartge V8 does both, and a really lovely V8 sound and it revs all the way up, a good mix, also
even when driving to 300km/h it still feels stable on the road.
It also has the very short shift riffle bolt shifting and the more heavy clutch
Its a real drivers car.
I also love the way the Morgan N62 cars are, especially the Morgan Aero Coupe or SuperSports

H'm, mine has a powerband that spans from 2000-6500 (max torque @2000-3750, max power @5850 IIRC) which I think isn't bad for an OHV V8. A good LS will likely go to 7 or so (i.e. not that much difference)?
500s are notoriously restricted near the top end, standard, there is not much incentive to rev past 5K or so. Put a twin or triple plenum on top with fueling to match and the power gets held for at least 500 rpm more...

Morgans can never take the TVR mantle for one very simple reason.... more often than not they actually work.

another insightful comment about TVR reliability from a non-owner...stick to Datsuns...I'll say it for him then. You really are just waiting for the next thing to break!
My next one will not have the hands of anyone from TVR having lain a finger on it
I like the bit about you 4.0 having 240bhp!
How does the Mog compare to the old spongy Trevor, in the go and cornering oh and build depts?
Most 4.0's are just 3.9 Defenders with a different cam and make about 205 - 210 flywheel bhp unlike the real numbers manufacturers now release for their cars. i.e. the V8 Beemer Mog will have close to 2x the power of the 4.0 Chim.

Not so quick Paduan... a 3.9 Defender/Disco/RR doesn't make anywhere near the quoted 190 bhp either (more like 145-150).
Back in the day, several magazines over here compared the 4.0 Chim with a Marcos (Mantis?) that did have an unmodified 3.9 plonked into it and they were chalk and cheese, like 8.0 sec 0-62 versus low 5s for the Chim...
I've seen enough 400s make someting like 225-230 to wager that this is what a good one in as-new condition should make. Unfortunately, the vast majority seems to be horribly off-colour these days - blame cheap servicing and dealer incompetence... oh, and ehm 'variable' build standards based on what was on the shop floor that day, maybe?

Cant help but love a Morgan, that shapely rear and that engine are simple sublime.
Although the front can look a little odd
Take a photo with a stupid fish-eye lens and what do you expect FFS?Although the front can look a little odd
The S1 Aero 8 had the lights from the reborn VW Beetle - they were a last minute option when BMW refused to supply the new Mini headlights to Morgan. This caused the squint with the original car. Morgan resolved this with the Series 3 Aero 8 by fitting the BMW lights; therefore the dodgy photo you've posted is nothing other than misleading. You should be working for Top Gear.
