Yawn, why do people care so much about it not being masculine, it's a 315bhp mid engined porsche not a pink corsa! Pretty sad that so many people are scared about what other people will think about their manhood, despite the fact most negative comments are going to be from people who are jealous and own far from 'manly' cars themselves.

The headlamp graphic, although better proportioned than the Toyota effort, is almost identical in profile, as is the treatment of the rear flank intakes. Much as I try, I can't get past this horific emasculating visual link.
Huge shame. I imagine there'll be large dent in one of the floors in Zell am See at the very spot where the clanger landed. Which came first the boxster or the MK3 MR2? I'm assuming you don't actually want an answer to that question and you're using it as a means to illustrate a point. Besides, I don't actually know, and despite the answer being a few mouse clicks away it matters not (to me) which car was penned first, as the answer will not change the fact that the new boxster shares some visual links with the MR2 Spider. I realise the MR2 Spider was/is a good steer but it's hardly a design benchmark if you're struggling to address some misplaced stigmas relating to image.

How does electric power steering increase fuel economy and decrease emissions?

The MR2 was more of a copy of the original boxster, Porsche are bound to follow the form of their own previous cars not a Toyota copy, hence why there are some minor similarities. In other words the new boxster uses the DNA of the previous generations of which the MR2 kind of mimicked. BTW I don't own a Porsche and never have and have no real issue with the image, I'll let other people worry about that. I tend to make my own mind up about what I like rather than worrying about how it may be perceived by others, that tends to be their issue. Anyway how dreadful must the stigma of owning a boxster be? It must be terrible

The closer I got, the more special it felt, until I was right up next to that exquisite hood. That's when I realized it looked pretty much perfect. Had to do the 'turn to look at it one last time' as I walked away. Sigh. Really hope Porsche make another Boxster Spyder.

i personally think its underpowered for a sports car
they need to do a bigger power possibly turbo version too
it will enhance the image imho

Who is this Chris Harris character? Why do his video reviews have to be pre cursed with his name? Is it some sort of ego thing...?

What a pleasure to see a video of a car test by someone who can really drive, is thoroughly knowledgeable about cars.
It leaves JC and his crap reporting miles behind, I think his big head gets in the way!

Since I am apparently the PH stereotype made flesh (being a company director, possessing a goatee and being powerfully-built - well, heavy, anyway) I don't find my masculinity threatened by the car I drive, so I'd buy a Boxster if everything Monkey said was true. But it ain't. This car is not £40k. It's £46k with no options, and with any sensible set of kit it's knocking on £60k - the one I specced just now for fun was £59k and I didn't go mad at all. That's just stupid when you can buy a sub 10k-mile 2-year-old high-spec 997 C2S cab for near enough the same money. Here's one in very similar spec to the Boxster I put together for £65k from Bramley, for Pete's sake, so people not in their private fantasy land of pricing (and I know whereof I speak, I have bought from them, and nice people they are too) will be asking sub £60k for similar cars. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a lovely motor, but it needs to come in at £50k with a reasonable selection of kit to make sense. That would set it squarely against the SLK 350, the Audi S5 cab etc in similar levels of spec. I've just matched an SLK as best I can to the Boxster and it came out at £50,650. Of course you can argue that a poverty-spec car would be fine, but why should you do without nav, PASM, heated seats, bluetooth, leather and a decent stereo when you can have all of these in similar cars for the same money. I'm sure the Boxster's a better drive than the S5 (they're not really in the same segment, after all, and most sports cars would be - I know, I have an S5 cab...), and I suspect it's materially better than the SLK. But is it £10k better? Is it better than a 1-year-old GTR; a 2-year old 911 C2S...?

I agree with Achris that one doesn't really need more - personally, though, I would prefer less. Perfect one car solution if you don't need the space and plan to commute in it, but I fear too heavy, plush, refined for what I want out of a sportscar.

Because as with everyone else totally pissed off with the total rubbish spilled by the BBC, the only other car reviewer that I like watching is Jay Leno. We are Petrolheads, so we want to know the technical details. Not how fast it can drive on a runway against an F16. Chris's videos are excellent - and just about the only car reviews worth watching out of the UK right now. So if you don't mind, keep pre-pending Chris Harris on the videos, then I'll bother to watch them.

New boxster looking good. Can't wait to see and drive one. But I like the rarity of my spyder and the looks. Dunno if they will re do the spyder, but it would be a good 4-5 years away. Good video... much more like it. Simple informative driving of a car. No silly phone calls, long winded joke build up or a 'w k' mountain in sight!
