Gee with some of you it is getting embarrassing to have to admit our British heritage.

Some approval, but so many have no desire to be the fastest electrician/carpenter in the west, or north south or east. Then someone suggests you get them & stick some wheezy 4 pot in them. Please, we could never allow that. We'd have to stop all GM exports to you if you started doing that. The shame would be unbearable.

Holden do a 6 in them. It's only a little 3.6L V6, but it's almost enough to drag the tools to the job, if you're not embarrassed by the cyclists passing you that is.

If you want a ute with a 6 in it, Ford in Oz do a better job. They had enough sense to stick a turbo on their straight 6. The son in law got one. If he dumps the tools out Saturday morning, before he goes out to the strip, he can get 14 second quarters out of it, so almost man enough. With a chip they get well under that too.

You lot need to talk to your Ford branch over there, you might be able to get a few of these decent tradesman's vehicles, if you try hard enough.
or you could get a diesel van for 100 a month and then buy whatever car you want for when you are not at work... I don't understand why a car like this would actually be used for work.

If you have no kids why not?

Think of it this way... only one vehicle to fuel, tax, insure and maintain... and less space took up on the drive.

so aiming at the middle-aged with no kids, tradesman who earns enough money to both buy the car and pay a stload the the cost of insurance, fuel, tyres for business miles? Doesn't strike me as the largest market. Oh and tradesmen who don't actually need that much space in the back.

That was Roger's personal car - not returned in quite as nice condition as when it left.

No... aiming at the young market where image is a factor wink

Aussie fuel and insurance costs are lower than ours. It's not uncommon for kids top be tooling around in V8's down there.

As for space in the back? it's probably got more room than your average navara crew cab

I mean UK... the young cool plumber market over here doesn't spend 50k on a van!! At the prices they are in Oz maybe, but they are clearly a vast amount more here. There just isn't a culture of that type of thing here. Aside from the fact a lot of tradesmen here are now eastern europeans and have driven over in their 20 year old opel. There is a clear difference between whether the car is cool and whether introducing it here makes any sense. I love the car in general, it is just utterly stupid to bring it to the UK; and at that price it is the decision of a mental patient.

What a useful comment, relevant to my post.

Thanks for your contribution to PH.

I went to NZ in '06 & couldn't resist a test drive.....anyway bouht one & shipped it back it proved interesting to get it road registered but found someone who did it for me, SVS was it? I have the paperwork somewhere.

I did think it might have to go back at one point but no we won & got it road registered. I had it landed here for sub 20k & it was a hoot, if a little thirstier than I was at the time! Exchange rate was 3 NZ dollars to the pound at the time though! wish I'd bought a house over there but a Ute was good fun. '06 was the first year they had fitted traction & they all thought I was a proper wimp discussing it in the showroom!

Bought back memories though when I saw this but 50k? I'll stick with the 911 me thinks. Oh don't ask what happened to it please, it still makes my neck hurt even to think about it!

It is obvious you have never had a bill from an Ozzie trades man. They are the new elite down here.

These high performance utes are our 2 door coupes, the tuned ones will out perform most of the European stuff at 4 times the price, & do a couple of hundred thousand kilometers with out breaking.

And yes, no self respecting apprentice in Oz would be seen dead in anything less than a 6 cylinder, with a couple of hundred BHP. If something takes longer than 15 seconds for a quarter, it's beneath their dignity. Besides they need a bit of power & weight to tow a 15/18Ft water sky boat, & carry the gear.

Hell, down here, we give our taxi drivers 200 Kilowatt Fords to terrorise the pedestrians with.

At the current exchange rate, that makes it 76,757 AUD.
RRP for one new in AUS right now is 69,990 AUD.

That's not so bad.. Its just cause everyone in the UK is spoiled by great prices for everything else.. Heck, have a quick read of this and be prepared to pity us poor Aussies frown

well no, you just get shafted for non-domestic makes, so you don't buy them. That's fair enough, but it's the same issue as with the Maloo in UK

Oh how I want one of these! cloud9

They were going to sell it here in the U.S. as the El Camino, but sadly, GM's bankruptcy and subsequent government takeover binned that idea. frown

Those "Biohazard" wheels have got to go, though. yuck

The reason this is so expensive is because the Australian dollar is ridiculously high at the moment. A lot of manufacturing industries are going broke in Australia these days. They're even shutting down the oil refineries and steel mills for Christ's sake!

Good reason to buy one of these now, because it might just be your last chance.

The latest is about 67k AUD plus taxes (the R8 Auto is close to 70k) .. and at the current exchange rate that's over 45k GBP.

I see dozens of these these daily.

It's the equivalent of a TT or SLK. A two seater sporty car, but with more practicality.
