RB Will said: I worked for a Chrysler dealer when these came out and have driven a fair few over the years. The drive and ride is absolutely fine if you are not thinking about doing track days. They are comfortable cruisers. The diesel moves well enough and they are pretty reliable. It is the interior that lets it down though. People say that unless you fondle the dash then it does not matter but all the touch points are horrible hard plastic. The biggest thing that used to annoy me was when the sun hit the steering wheel you could see through the 'wood' part of it!
At the end of the day it's your choice so go and have a go in one the reliability is fine and everything else is personal preference so you need to make ur mind up not let all the moaners on here do it for you. As for other left field choices how about a Subaru Legacy. Diesel one needs a remap for a bit more poke but the ride and interior is pretty good. Thanks. Not too bad inside. Ive seen better but Ive seen worse. If I was spending 50k I'd question it but for just over 10 Im fine with it. Was a nice place to be That boot is huge not very tall but more than enough for what I need.

My cousin worked for Chrysler in the UK and in Oman and had one as a company hack (before getting a 5.7 Charger out of them). He liked it but he's a big lad and a bit 'ganster' so it suited him. I've only been a passenger in it but it felt OK from my side. Based on the old E Class I believe. Not ground breaking at anything but decent enough as a comfortable motorway cruiser with a bit extra theatre and menace about it.

Q: Is the 300c built on the Merc W124 platform and running gear?
If so it should be a blinding motorcar!

Pesty said: do you mean a V8 diesel? or petrol. Petrol is out, this is a work motorway mucnher im looking at. If there is a new V8 diesel coming out it will be too new and far far out of my price range. Sorry, missed the fact that petrol was not an option. I wouldn't bother with a diesel version of this car, as it's performance is so blunted. Despite the torque delivered by this diesel engine, the car is simply too heavy to make it a rewarding drive.

On the Superb Skoda I thought they were cavernous in the back until we tried to get three adults in there. Width seems a bit of a problem.

As fabulas as it is tell me Im wrong. bugger 28 miles away from me but private seller £6,650 but i would have to sell mine first and by then it will be sold damn it. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...Just had a thought. At that price I could buy this and sell mine private. As long as the 407 goes relativly quick it shouldn't be a problem

Garlick said: I'll be watching this with interest as I too have been drawn in by these big beasts. I'll let you know how I get on with it I now own one . Decided to spend a bit more and get the facelift version as the interior is a little nicer. Looked for an estate but decided to get a nice one of whichever turned up first so have ended up with a saloon. Can't drive it till tomorrow when the tax starts but from what I have tried so far all is ok. Ok no it wont be winning any races and its not a pin sharp track wepon but for what I need floating about the country for work it should be fine. Yes its a little daft to get a car like this for my work needs but you only live once so. I will really for the first time in my life HAVE to change the way I drive as I want need to keep the MPG over 30. Oh and be quick prices on these seem to be rising. From when I looked at the begining of the year they have gone ballistic. This usualy happens when I start looking for a car. I wonder if there has been a buying guide in a car mag or something.

Nice one Ive just been sat in mine can't drive it so Ive been playing with the Nav/dvd player Christ its frigging complicated. More toys than I have had on any other car. I was having serious buyers remorse but feel better today after a play. I just wish it was a bit smaller I am really going to have huge problems parking it at my customers places. Im either going to have to walk for miles or get there mega early I will do a proper fill up/empty/fill up again to check what MPG I will get in normal use. Not looking forward to it.

dm46 said: just seen its too late; destination dullsville and regret. Dull? its hardley dull when compared to the usual rep mobile I could have got. I had a 407 now that WAS dull Your sugestions were out of the question anyway. I needed a diesel its a work car. I need a car that will encourage me to drive slow and that will get me hundreds of miles to a meeting feeling fresh not stressed out because Ive been thrashing something everywhere.

Vulgar LS2 said: Pesty, please keep this thread updated, I keep looking at these as a replacement for my Accord. For those that are interested in these some thoughts from today. First day of driving. so far love it. Driving. Very nice on the motorway. Quite happily drive it more sedately than usual. Will still have to remember to stop my habit of flooring it for green and yellow lights. On the worst roads of sheffield the ride got very jiggley, christ that council needs a slap.(reporter mode on )compromised(/off) rest of the time fine nice to drive. Steering is quite numb but not a problem. Trip computer said I averaged 31.5MPG which is encouraging as today I did a lot of city center driving so fairly surprised. I have filled it and will be checking properly. Had to park in one of my tightest multi stories. Actualy had not much problem i went in a space I would not have attempted in the 407. But its wide you have to park perfectly straight and perfectly in the middle or one side will be over the line. as it is today I was dead straight and had about an inch to spare each side. I imagine I will get lots of parking dents. Neat things about parking. The wing mirrors tilt down when you go in reverse which means you get a very good view for reversing. The parking sensorts have a visual display that you can see in the rear view mirror. I knew it was big and that this would be a problem but Im sure I will get used to it. Stereo is excellent as is Sat nav Pro: 20gig hard drive means I have inherited the last owners Ipod library Con: I have inherited the last owners ipod library. Not found teh delete button yet. Two things I really don't like. 1) handbrake sorry footbrake, This is going to take a while to get used to and I will have probably broken it by then. Keep forgeting to use the release handle. 2) this one is really strange for a first released in 2006. The petrol cap is locking! Yes the cap not the flap. I think it was early 80's the last time I saw this. Having to use a key every time to get fuel in seems a massive ball ache after 20 odd years of not having to. Oh and worlds biggest car with worlds smallest glove box. pic to follow

Only just seen your thread, good work on making the leap. I did the same two weeks ago for pretty much the same reasons even to the extent of upping my budget a bit to get a 2009 for the nicer interior. Must admit to thinking if it was a bad move I could probably get my money back because the prices definitely seem to be moving up not down at the moment, perhaps because they're becoming 'PH Cars'-at least three of us in the last 2 weeks and if Garlick swaps his Toyota for one,we should double our money in a year!
