Already been mentioned and as of yet it hasn't done a top speed tun at that power level, only 1/4 mile runs.
Hasn't done 1/4 mile runs at that power level either (traction issues).

Surely the mountain of power is not only impressive, but also the point... As a technical and marketing exercise for a small tuning company, it's an amazing achievement and showcases their obvious skill and ability.

I appreciate that not everyone likes fast and/or tuned/modded cars. But more than doubling the stock BHP is not an easy thing to do... and that is the point.

Not to mention that the tuning company probably had a lot of fun doing it. smile

Impressive stuff, anyone wondering about reliability of big power cars, have a chat to Gray passingham down at GT-art he's been building big power cars that are daily drivers for years. Gary's drag car (The Beast) is mapped to run on race fuel or the crappy unleaded from the Texaco round the corner from his place, he and Ron Kiddell used to drive to and from all the drag events they competed in in huge power cars.

What I'm most impressed about is that they have keep the every day road car interior. I expected it to be stripped out and gutted a la GT3 etc, but hell it's still got leather seats and a stereo.

I wonder if a serious diet would make a noticeable difference to the top speed, or whether it would just be better in the corners...anyone with more knowledge than myself have any thoughts on that?

Won't affect the top speed, just initial acceleration and handling, after xx mph (not sure on figures) it all becomes about power and aero.

This is the thing that grates on me slightly about this car. Mega horsepower... great! Impressive, well done.

But why the "lambo" doors and bling-bling wheels? No wonder they were getting wheelspin at 100mph, the setup is arse-about-face. I'd love to see the true potential unleashed, but it needs lightening, better wheels and tyres and no silly stuff like show-off doors.

You're a miserable bd aren't you?

As another poster said, "Why do we do ANY of the things we do?" This car is good at drag racing - it may be good at other things, but that's good enough for me!

Don't know how or why you find a car that fast unimpressive. Reckon it was an easy feat do you? You know this is a forum for petrol heads, right?
My suspicion is that you're trolling for attention.

I think the article pretty much sums it up along with other people's comments about.........no one would have guessed that at the moment the fastest GTR in the world has been created by a small tuning company in the UK!

The point is to beat the Yanks/Japs and at the moment we're winning biggrin Isn't that the point with any race/competition/world record attempt?

Because it's not actually a "land speed record" car, it's a promo tool for a business - so it has to perform multiple functions. One of these is to go very fast and feature in a PH news article, and another is to "look good" (aka "be attention grabbing") whilst parked stationery at a tuner show.

Mr Gear,

Just clarify a few of your points, this car did not have Lambo doors at the tim of the run neither was it running the 22" Wheels as it was shown at the Autosport Show 2012. This GT-R has many guises and we cosmetically alter it according to the event.

At the time of the run, it was wearing a standard front Bumper not the nomral Top Racing one, it had the original rear tailgate and rear spoiler not the Aeromotions S2 Active Rear Wing. We were running Volk 20" wheels with Toyo R888. (Will try and post pic's later)

There are many people on here who will praise and some that will think what is the point. This is a project vehcile for SVM and we use it to test new components and then use the knowledge we have gained further down the chain on smaller conversions for R35 GT-R's.

It will not be to everyones taste I admit and apologise but you cant please everyone.

Let's appreciate it for what it is and what it has achieved. I hope the future continues to be bright.

Thank you

Amar

Yuck. Double yuck.

Great promo for the Maxpower crew but otherwise, a total and utter waste of a great standard car. Just think what they could have bought with that cash. Crazy.

Has no-one ever mentioned that you don't get your money back on modifications. D'oh.

That's fair enough I suppose. I guess I am just a purist. I want to see either a proper racecar or a proper road-car and find stuff in the middle a little hard to understand.

Trolling ? Come off it, I was just left a bit cold by it, despite the considerable effort that has gone into the car. I'll try not to post anything other than blind agreement with the herd next time, so as not to upset anyone rolleyes
"The Point" of the car is patently obvious to anyone with half an interest in the tuning scene - so your comment of "what's the point" seemed to trolling to me.

The only thing you could buy for the same money is something a lot slower!!! If you don't like the exterior you could buy a GTR, buy just the engine, suspension and brake upgrades. And you'd have a car that destroys pretty much every supercar ever made for a fraction of the cost of any you could name. Don't know about anyone else but that's good value for money to me.

What's with all the negativity? Is everyone just doing the typical British thing of trying to put down someone else's achievement.

How can anyone be left cold by around 300bhp per litre?

The fact that its retained much of its road kit is great - reminds me a bit of "Rocket Ron's" Skyline - drove it to Ten of the Best, won the event, drove home - still had leather and aircon and stereo fitted.

Personally, I don't much like the car (more into Italian) but nobody can deny that its an engineering triumph. IMHO, it would be more impressive if it looked close to bog-standard, but then it wouldn't be instantly recognisable as SVM's promo car.

As for there needing to be a point - surely if there was no point in building fast cars, we'd all be smoking round in Trabants. Even before the IC engine was invented, man was always trying to go faster - whether it was running, riding or driving - we've always pushed boundaries

You would never buy a car if you applied that logic. Or anything much for that matter!

What a stupid thing to say.

To be a real pedant you are actually wrong in this case - SVM will have drummed up far more business than the mods cost so it was actually a very good investment for them.
