I am struggling to understand all the negativity being aimed at EC.
Because people are generally fairly stupid and/or don't read threads.
I thought it was because he had paid a large amount of money commisioning a car that the general consensus here appears to agree is worse than the car it is based on? Maybe I've missed something though by being stupid/not reading the thread?
Not directed personally SWoll, just generally.

It's certainly not everyones cup of tea, but it is what it is - a car for himself, so if he's happy then good luck.
I was referring more to the 'should have spent it on charity / ridiculous to pay that sort of money' comments.

It's probably not how I would have a custom Ferrari built either, but that's fairly academic!

Fair enough andy, didn't take it personally TBH and now you've explained I can see exactly where you are coming from and agree with you completely.

There must be a certain satisfaction to owning a complete one off. WhY the man does with his money is his own business. 300k on paint, even if that's true so what.

Now Clapton's given me a reason to pirate his music....if he can afford to commission a car like that, he's not in the poor house and doesn't need my money from buying his CD's.
What a stupid comment.

I think it looks better in the video, and Clapton doesn't care what people think. What are the actual chances of us seeing it? He has the money to do it so who cares, if I had that much money I'd want to build a special one off.

Should have got Zagato or similar to do this and then it may have been worth something in a few years time

im no do gooding charity bloke, but i am generous and have a good heart, if i had 300,000 squid to burn i would give it to a good cause and not on f*cking caliper colouring, shame on you clapton, i love cars and if i had the money i would own lots but you are a m*nge
Quite agree, I would prefer the feeling you get when you have just helped lads of kids get better in the world than spend and waste money on a tin of paint for the brakes . I like nice things and I feel if you have the then why not! But this is a waste!
Nobody has ever spent 300 grand on calliper paint. Think about it. These people, for example, will match any colour code you give them for $100; http://www.g2usa.com/product/CBCP.html

That factoid has received Daily Mail quality accuracy checking I imagine i.e. 'A man in a pub once told me...'

Everyone knows it's Mr Claptons money and he can do what he likes with it, but since when does that mean no one else is entitled to an opinion on a car. smile

I guess it could possibly turn up at Goodwood supercar paddock.

the "i don't like the back" and "i don't like the front" (or indeed whichever part of the car) comments are all valid subjective views, but the "why the fk didn't he just buy a <whatever car>, the belming tt" comments are wide of the mark. Firstly he definitely wanted something unique, secondly he wanted it based on a 458, thirdly there are design cues he liked that he used to base the car on, and fourthly he has a lot of cash which no-one can hold against him (a legend after all), plently enough to buy what he wants - it isn't an either/or situation! It's not like he did it to save a few quid. Nor for that matter to own a 458, or indeed to own a boxer.

Front lights remind me of a Fiat Coupe. IMO the normal 458 is miles better looking, this ones a bit too bland, but his got the money and it makes him happy, thats all that matters smile

Another badly/unedited PH article...!

Not sure I like the fezza much either, might change seeing it in the flesh, but kudos to Clapton for having it built.

I saw it earlier this week and thought it didn't quite look right. At first I thought it was an older concept car. The back looked ok but the front 3/4 profile looked like the bd child of a 458 and a MP12 to me - I'm not going to trust my judgement though after not liking the 458 the first few times I saw it and now realising how wrong I was.

I'd heard of it a while before I saw it, and someone fairly close to it told me it was 'and ugly 458 with a V12 instead of the 8'.
The V8 is a great engine but I can't see anyone shelling out that sort of money without wanting to go for the biggest, most powerful engine Ferrari have on the top shelf?

IMO the 458 isn't ageing well with too much fussy detailing.

This from the front and side profile looks so much cleaner but the rear needs a bit more work, including loosing the 3 zorst tips

Good effort

That is marmite. I personally think it's odd looking (certainly from the front).

Tip of the hat for him building a one off, just a little disappointed that he didn't make them shoehorn a V12 in there.
