I thinks its a bargain- what would it do to the gallon you reckon 30ish?
You'll be lucky sub-30mpg mine used to do. As for cheap to fix, no they're not. Lots of ball joints for the steering, white metal bearings which cost a fortune to sort & because its a bypass oil filter don't last long especially if driven on the motorway.
I had an all GRP bodied one on a steel floor with 1600E rear axle & Classic brakes which I was building into a hillclimber/sprinter. That was to have Alfa Nord 2L power, unfortunately my ex hated it & made me bin it.

Why? It had the makings of a good car, I only wish I'd kept it & finished it. It had the makings of a good club car.

I owned one of these back in the early eighties and I got 80mph up on the clock once! I had a witness too but of course the speedo was not accurate.

The plan was to drop a 2 litre Pinto lump in it but in the end the Pop and the Mk3 2000E Cortina donor car got sold as a job lot for around £200.

Thats a consul classic. Not a Capri. Consul Capri had a swooping roofline. Classic has the same style roof as the 105e anglia.
My wife had one of those Capri's as her first car.

Has the engine even got a waterpump? I think it is good. I wonder how bad the bodywork is. Might be awful in which case remember that it costs as mich to weld a humble Ford as it does to weld a more exotic and valuable car of similar vintage.

The impecunious South Londoners who charge around in these seem to find a way though.

I like this sort of thing. Remember seeing them blatting round Battersea and Chelsea bridge in early 80's. No need for anything more than 1600 X-Flow and twin 40's!
