RE: SOTW: Ford Prefect

It's cheap
It's unusual
Top Shedding, just don't bring us one like this every week, we still like our old autobahn stormers and other random stuff!!
To be fair, you could actually fix the engine with bit's of old gate and some parts of your lawnmower, well, it looks like that's what it's made from:
and as the bodywork seems intact(ish) it's basically £800 for a year or two's free motoring if you ask me, then sell it to someone who wants to put a V8 in when you get bored/the wheels fall off!
When I was a school boy my older brother had an ex-racing 100E, it had been developed by Willement Engineering, and was said to be a Silverstone Class Lap Record holder. It was fitted with an overhead inlet valve conversion. It's big problem was the two pence piece sized blanks which were epoxy resined into the redundant side inlet valve hole. Often these blanks would come adrift with catastrophic results to the engine internals ! This was all a very long time ago, I'm guessing fifty years.....terrifying !!!

You'll be lucky sub-30mpg mine used to do. As for cheap to fix, no they're not. Lots of ball joints for the steering, white metal bearings which cost a fortune to sort & because its a bypass oil filter don't last long especially if driven on the motorway.
I had an all GRP bodied one on a steel floor with 1600E rear axle & Classic brakes which I was building into a hillclimber/sprinter. That was to have Alfa Nord 2L power, unfortunately my ex hated it & made me bin it.
Well you made one good decision - or nshe did either way all goodI had an all GRP bodied one on a steel floor with 1600E rear axle & Classic brakes which I was building into a hillclimber/sprinter. That was to have Alfa Nord 2L power, unfortunately my ex hated it & made me bin it.
Not the brightest of comments....
I've highlighted the key element in your post to help you out

I love it! Primer with red steelies and whitewalls? It's the prefect car for me! You'd never find one for that price over here.
Importing cars to the USA for when they're over 25 years old is supposed to be relatively straightforward. As for this car, realistically, I wouldn't. We live in a townhouse with no garage, only two alotted parking spaces, but already have three cars. It would be fun putting the (2.0L)Zetec from my Focus in this. I don't know how much these weigh, but 140bhp-ish in it would surely be plenty.
