My first car was a Ford Anglia - almost identical to the Prefect so not sure what the difference was - maybe the 3 speed (+ reverse!) box or the vacuum windscreen washers which meant that if you were going up a hill they stopped working and then went like crazy on the way down the other side - those were the days! Not too sure but suspect that a heater might have been an extra.

I always thought Anglias were the 2-doors, and the 4-doors were Prefects? Jim

Whilst I love old cars they have to be standard as they came out the factory. Once molested like this example has been, I lose interest.
Strange. I wouldn't consider the 1950s version of a white goods car if it were standard, but this does appeal to my sense of humour. And it's not like there won't be any factory standard ones around in museums for us to gaze at for a l-o-n-g time coming...
I like that but realistically its going to be a horror as it is, my 944 is a bit of a needy thing and thats 32 years younger, this will be slow, ponderous and time consuming, it looks like the suspension has been chopped down so the ride will be crap as well.
I think this could be fun but for me it would need, a modern 16 valve screamer of an engine, preferably on barking throttle bodies, 150 - 200 bhp should be more than enough, decent suspension, decent brakes, all the grot cut out and welded up, probably a cage and some banded steel wheels to complete the sixties boy racer look.

Hmmmmm, I know someone with a prefect that failed it's MOT on rust issues, but the other than that it's MINT !
oh, and by the way, it's running a Jaguar rear axle, road legal treaded drag tyres front and rear, and the small matter of a 3.5 Rover V8.
He's after the same sort of money, around 800 quid.
Combine the 2 cars = big time fun !

I love it and it’s an interesting choice of shed.
Obviously there will be a lot of posts blathering on about the lack of power this car has etc. but consider this: if you live in a big city and commute everyday, how often do you get to travel above 30 mph?
So, you’ve got free tax, it’ll cost pennies to insure, very little to go wrong with this car and if it does you can fix it yourself with a basic toolkit (or garage bills will be pretty small – no fancy plastic engine covers that take ages to remove here) and the parts should be nice and cheap.
The perfect commuter car?
Or stick a fking great V8 in it and have some fun!
