Got the 380SL out for a warm-up on a distinctly wintery day. The fabric hood needs replacing so it’s al fresco or hard top atm.

I popped out earlier to answer the question "is 5 degrees too cold to have the roof down?" The sun had come out so it seemed rude not to.

It turns out not, provided you have the windows up, wind deflector up, thick coat and thermal hat. I may need to find some gloves if it gets any colder though.

I love an E46, I've had two of them convertible like yours. If you don't want the hat and gloves my crossover point was 12 degrees but the wind deflectors really do help and I've got one now in my 6 series having learnt with the 3 how good they really are. Lovely car you have there, I loved both of mine (320 first then later a 330)

Great thread and some cracking cars! I’ve had a few convertibles over the years, starting with a triumph spitfire when I was 17...DDC 926k, where is it now?

TVR chimaera, Griffith and Tamora, 911 997.2 C2S and my current SL500 is leaving to hopefully make way for this next week...

Thank you both, appreciate the comments. Totally agree the 1980s SL is one of the great designs. No flashy scoops, swoops, strakes or spoilers, just deftly drawn lines, and a well placed touch of chrome. Bliss.

Had a 900i in a former life.

0-60 in months, handled like a semi-detached and as reliable as Donald Trump, but boy did she have character.

Not been out for a while but here’s one in the summer.

The noise of the engine with the roof down is bliss. Roll on the summer, Hopefully corona virus will be a thing of the past.

On my bucket list - there is something timeless about the earlier Elise - it doesn't look at all dated to me

No it’s not as mine is 03 plate and is number 32. Yours looks like it’s post face lift as it has the LED rear lights which mine doesn’t. I’ve also had her for over 10 years and I know the previous owner 😀
