Glad they have done this review of the P1, nice to see a scoob on the front page. Thank you Pistonheads

The best scooby ever! BTW the top speed of 155 mph is respectable, what do you expect with an ironing board on the back and a cornflakes packet on the hood?
My point is it prob has high drag, but just look at the 0-60.. 4.7! That is still very fast.

Only driven a blob eye ppp version which was great , my all time fave scoob apart from the 22b is the P1 .

I have nothing but admiration for them and there owners / keepers.

Had one with stage one mods and AP racing brakes (the standard ones as the article points out were dreadful) and I absolutely loved it. The awesome colour, classic looks, the flat four burble, the b road ability and how rapid the acceleration to 100 felt... cloud9

Replaced with an Evo 9 FQ360 which is certainly a more capable car out of the box but has never felt quite as special

An absolutely brilliant car, I love the look, the sound and the performance of these.

Huge tuning potential and as mentioned in the article, light too. I have to say the P1 'generally' seems to have gone in the hands of enthusiasts. Unfortunately, a lot of the 4 door classic Subaru's have got in the hands of people that just manage to run them on a shoestring. See plenty of 'chavved' up 4 door ones - I hope the P1 doesn't end up like that!

Great article chaps!

Great article PH, captures what the lure of these cars is today. While you might be able to buy a dull Golf with nearly as much power, few can hope to attack a road with even half of the deftness of a classic Impreza. I'd love a classic Impreza, preferably a Type R or RA for me.

best subaru i owned out of the 4 i had, a couple were quicker but not as good an all round package for our roads ,on a twisty road you need a very fast car to keep up with one

One with a couple fewer driven wheels maybe?
Was hoping for the 2013 Impreza. Everyone already knows the BRZ will be a turning point for Subaru. Cannot wait smile

Would have rated it a 9 but took one off for fragility.

Really enjoyed driving the P1 but at the time couldn't help being convinced by the EVO 6 which was cheaper at the time.

Well, I already have a P1 and a DC2!
I had a Type RA V-Ltd and a DC2, the later was far more fun though, not as quick but more fun.

i have owned 4 wrx, 2002-2003 ,none of them sti,one had the pro drive kit and was far the best, the added bhp only 60,did make a difference as did the bigger brakes, the last one a 2003,genuine 73k never had paint, totally standard, i paid £3,300 last summer and sold it for £3,850 3 months later just putting fuel in. Bad points, sup fuel like a alhoholic with your foot down, poor brakes cheap interior, I would reccomend the lowest mileage example you can get,it does affect these cars .

I guess the question with these is, does the massive premium you pay over a fettled sti make them worth it ?

Having just aqqcuired an early wrx for £600 with t&t, gently tweak it and end up at around £1500 with similar power etc that £13k odd is a hell of a lot of v power wink

The DC2 is a much better track car. The front end bites more and the chassis is more balanced. The P1 is a better road car, has more feelsome steering and loads more grunt.

Never understood why they dropped the DCCD from the TypeR
Because they wanted ABS instead for the UK market I think - it wasn't until the blobeye that they got DCCD to work with ABS, before that you had one or the other.

Great review, I always wanted one after seeing one for sale on a Nick Whale/Lotus forecourt back in 2006 for £13000. I settled for a RB5 in 2007.

I think these will start going up in value soon, future classic for sure as still look great 12 years on, especially with the 18" wheels.

One of these came past me while I was out on the (push)bike yesterday. Managed to catch him up at the traffic lights and give a slightly puffed-out thumbs up to its grinning driver - he paid me back by giving it the full beans off the lights. Cracking noise!
