I am getting pretty excited about this. Maybe I am a sucker for the marketing, but it really looks like they have put a lot of effort in to making these really fun and involving cars to drive in everyday situations.

Also: how can I apply for a job in "1st Power Unit Experimental Research Division"? That place looks awesome!

I've never seen a car advertised for its capacity to carry sports tyres before. And a cup holder. Genius.

Would that then imply that track work won't void the warranty ?

And a door pocket specifically for polyethylene terephthalate bottles?!

What exactly does this engine rev too, they seem to make quite a song and dance about it in that video, even hinting that they were struggling to get 7000rpm reliably in the early days. Then you see the tach and it seems to redline at 7250ish which seems pretty er, normal. A 1996 honda civic would better that by quite a distance, makes you wonder how much of a tosh factor is in the rest of their speel.

Japan are getting a nice track spec!

"higher priced race package includes 2 possible roll cage configurations, a safe fuel tank (30L or 85L), front/rear tow hooks, cut off switch, and air jacks."
http://www.ft86club.com/?p=1390

Should think (hope) Warranty for track use would be ok as well for our uk 'premium' spec models

So what's the earliest example of "badge engineering", if you go to the Seventies (with your anorak on) VW Santana/Audi 80, Polo/Audi 50. Then into the fifties/sixties with BMC rife with countless variations on Morris Oxford/Austin Cambridge, Austin/Morris 1100, Wolseley 1500/Riley 1 point 5, mini, "Spridget" etc

Was there anything pre-dating the mini in 1959?

AFAIK manufacturers try to keep revs down now as the emissions tests are done at a certain % of max revs, so a car with a higher redline will have a artificially bad test result.

My old '90 Legacy hit the limiter at 7750rpm and loved it though. hehe

Struggling to get reliability, i dont think so. Have a dig around for the 2006 JDM spec C impreza that was a 2.0l H4 engine that revs all the way upto over 8000rpm.

My current scooby has a 3.0l H6 engine and is happy to go upto 7700rpm.

I don't really care who wins the DNA willy-waving competition. I just wish they'd stick a turbo on it and give it the power it deserves.

I really really want to love this car but every time I see the photos and read about the spec, i am losing interest each time.

I will await until it is released and I can see it in the flesh but I will not be rushing to put a deposit down on the toyubaru.

My brother's taken two days off to explore Welsh roads in his Boxster and has bumped into the Evo lot with the Subaru on the A4069…

Benchmarking it against the 370Z and MX-5 by the looks of it.

I wonder if there will be any significant gap in depriciation, I'd imagine the Subara will be holding better despite the similarities.

If the marketing was to be believed the Mini was the long-awaited successor to the Austin Seven. Early ones were promoted as the 'Austin Se7en'.

BMW's first car, the Dixi, was a rebadged Austin 7, that was back in the mid 1920's.

I would say that the Subaru owns the Toyobaru, as they did the engineering design and it uses their engine, but then being an engineer, I would say that.

Thought they might have thrown a 125i M-sport into the mix as well - similar power and performance albeit heavier

There was a Megane with them too, Henry Catchpole was just turning it around out of shot.
