RE: GT 86 vs BRZ: who 'owns' the Toyobaru?'

I am getting pretty excited about this. Maybe I am a sucker for the marketing, but it really looks like they have put a lot of effort in to making these really fun and involving cars to drive in everyday situations.

What exactly does this engine rev too, they seem to make quite a song and dance about it in that video, even hinting that they were struggling to get 7000rpm reliably in the early days. Then you see the tach and it seems to redline at 7250ish which seems pretty er, normal. A 1996 honda civic would better that by quite a distance, makes you wonder how much of a tosh factor is in the rest of their speel.
Japan are getting a nice track spec!
"higher priced race package includes 2 possible roll cage configurations, a safe fuel tank (30L or 85L), front/rear tow hooks, cut off switch, and air jacks."

Should think (hope) Warranty for track use would be ok as well for our uk 'premium' spec models
So what's the earliest example of "badge engineering", if you go to the Seventies (with your anorak on) VW Santana/Audi 80, Polo/Audi 50. Then into the fifties/sixties with BMC rife with countless variations on Morris Oxford/Austin Cambridge, Austin/Morris 1100, Wolseley 1500/Riley 1 point 5, mini, "Spridget" etc
Was there anything pre-dating the mini in 1959?

AFAIK manufacturers try to keep revs down now as the emissions tests are done at a certain % of max revs, so a car with a higher redline will have a artificially bad test result. My old '90 Legacy hit the limiter at 7750rpm and loved it though.

Struggling to get reliability, i dont think so. Have a dig around for the 2006 JDM spec C impreza that was a 2.0l H4 engine that revs all the way upto over 8000rpm. My current scooby has a 3.0l H6 engine and is happy to go upto 7700rpm.
