RE: SOTW: Porsche 924
Discussion
Might go horrificly and expensivly wrong very very soon, but then again might not. As long as you go in to it knowing that well worth it for a grand. If it lasts 6 months then it'll be a laugh. The only problem will be the prats pointing to top gear and saying " you shouldn't have done that"...
A proper slice of eighties cool, who said lose the wheels, those are the originals and why it looks as correct as it does, I think the924 has lost its negative connotations and is now a pretty, rare, usable classic coupe. Not sure why everyone has always felt the need to call it a vw with a van engine, think the snobs miss out on some nice cars, for a grand I cant see anyone losing money, it may even appreciate slightly if the snobs let it, funny how an old Escort is worth a fortune and a Porsche, yes an actual Porsche which I suspect is a much better car with its galvanised body, rear transaxle and coupe body has very little value. If the stigma ever goes I suspect 924s may have their day.

I doubt it. They're pretty cheap to run. And the engine in non-interference on the 2.0, so even if the cam belt snaps, it'll live to fight another day.I had a lot of fun in mine a few years back. Bought for shed money off eBay. Not quick, but beautifully balanced. And being so low to the ground, it felt quicker than it was.
And of course the roof lifts out, so you almost get an open-top driving experience.
A real bargain these.
ludicrously cheap, looks in good nick
these are the fastest appreciating classics out there, according to the german classic mags
never mind all this 'not a proper porsche' business, what RWD coupe from 70s/early 80s can you get in good useable condition for a grand? Capri? doubt it. MGBGT? maybe a very tatty one. Manta? doubt it. Anything Japanese? no chance

Now, to start with, I've to admit to being a long time air-cooled 911 purist and current owner of an '88 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupé, but, this thread has totally blown me away, the support for this 'sports LT van' is amazing! This car looks brilliant for under a grand, what a fantastic buy for someone can't afford or maybe justify buying a 'real' Porsche, it's got that Stuttgart crest on the front, it's a Porsche!!!! This, as a few on here have said will be so much fun compared to a cheap GTi hot hatch, and being built by Porsche should have the benefit of the build quality expected with the marqué. This particular example looks brilliant value for money and will give some lucky person oodles of enjoyment, great shed, if it wasn't for the fact that I have one Porker I'd be on this like a shot.......
