George H said: Because the amount of car for the money is laughable. I never said you would be stupid for wanting it, I said you would be stupid to pay that amount for it Seems like quite a lot of car for the money to me - rare, collectable and highly sought after and regarded by pretty much anyone who has owned one as a brilliant drive.

Anyway, I desperately want this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4096598.htmIt pisses me off something rotten that I can afford to run this in every aspect but insurance even for a 728 would be many many thousands (Although, still less than an ST170 etc ). A right b h because I don't do many miles now and those that I do are generally dual carriageway or long-distance motorway slogs, I don't need a hatchback anymore, the car's perfect for what I use it for EDIT: Well, seems I was wrong about insurance on the 740i above! A bargain at £6658. EDIT 2: WTF, almost a grand LESS than the 728i would be?

However, I love the cloth seats and the originality of it. Isn't the 318 engine meant to have lots of character as well?

DanDC5 said: Your ignorance on the NSX thread astounded me, it continues to do so here. It appears you actually find it impossible to accept other peoples car tastes aren't the same as yours and are therefore somehow inferior. I think you'll find the Aston Martin section more to your tastes.... No, its more a case of thats a s tty old thing that looks even worse after being barried up. And no, being a "drift" hero car is not an acceptable excuse for it still being a piece of 80s s te. Just as Escorts are pieces of 70s, 80s and 90s s te, so is that.

DanDC5 said: George H said: I just think you would have to be unbelivably stupid to spend £10k on that I'd say that's insulting the OP of the car in the thread to be honest. What you're basically saying is he's stupid for wanting that car. And how is laughing at the price an argument, let alone an actual reason? Wanting and actually spending the dosh are 2 very different things. There is only one reason to buy that for £10k...as a punt on the market for this stuff to carry on appreciating and sell it on to make money from it. As an automotive on its merits, its worth about £500 to give to you kid to run to school as their first car.

I've had both a 318 and 325 E30...i'd go for the 6 pot everytime, far sweeter engine than the 4 banger.

Few days ago I had a test drive in a 265 Cup. Incredible. However thinking about it, the only problem is not so much the 23k price of it, but the fact it will be worth a bit less than that in a few years time. In fact quite a lot less actually. So.... what I'm thinking is get one of these for £7k Then... RARB (Rear Anti Roll Bar - took me ages to find out what that meant - supposedly transforms the handling) Quaife ATB LSD (no more spinning the inside wheel in corners, maybe) Remap, not so much to increase power (although pushing 300 bhp would be nice) but to make the turbo more controllable - is this possible? Probably get the above for 1.5k (that figure might have been pulled out of thin air), so would this make it a credible 265 Cup rival for £8.5k?

^ Good thinking MarkRSI! Always had a soft spot for fast Vauxhalls. Having said that, I would prefer to start with a Vectra VXR and modify that than the Astra There is something about a really fast "normal" car that appeals to me, especially if you can modify it to an extent that it will trouble most things on the road. You aren't planning to get rid of that lovely MR2 are you?
