I was looking for this topic! I've just been down at Chicksands where they have the military intelligence museum and parked alongside was a Mercedes G Wagen. Which has now got me looking at them, always liked them but never looked seriously, they look like fun!

Didn't realize how (relatively) affordable these early Jaguar XKs have become:

Update on my Scirocco obsession:

Went to see a couple of Sciroccos nearby today. Was straight up with the VW dealers- "Look, no deal today but serious in a few months"- and they were equally nice with me. Let me have a poke around but clearly I wasn't expecting a test drive etc until I was properly ready to buy. (I'm OK with that, I'm sure they get a lot of people wasting their time and I don't intend to add to it.)

What did I learn? The cabin's a nice place to be but maybe a little too similar to my vRS. What I'm keen to find out is whether it drives sufficiently differently to make it worth the change. Time will tell on that score.

I have to say that all three sealers I spoke to were polite and helpful. Two out of the three knew what they were talking about; one didn't... I think I'll stick to the friendly two. They will be getting e-mails from me.

What I also learned is that after seeing two Sciroccos and a Golf R32 in Salsa Red with bonnets in poor condition, I won't be buying one in that colour. Maybe I've seen an unrepresentative sample but I'm particularly concerned about driving a pink car in 3 years. wink The brown looks awesome in the metal. (I know, I just said that out loud... but it really is.) Nevertheless, I think I'd like a Candy White one please. smile

To get a sufficiently different experience to my Octavia, I might try out a DSG nearer the time. Clearly they're divisive... but I'm keen to at least try one out now.

Has anyone driven a Scirocco *and* an Octavia vRS? Image and space aside- which are clearly different but not my primary concerns- how did they compare? I'm keen to give one a whirl but reluctant to spend lots on a near-identical driving experience and a smaller boot. hehe
I don't know how the VW compares to the vRS but if you want a review then check out a video on YouTube from Drivers Republic. Christ Harris seems to like it and gave it a decent review. I like them too. thumbup

Sadly, I would normally provide a link to video, but I am on iPhone. frown

Yes. I want a ratty MGBGT! Was behind one the other day, ratty old thing. Don't know what he had done to it but it had BMW-esque halo headlights and it sounded like a goddamn Spitfire!

Awesome.

One of these on CSL style 19's. Cannot believe how much the price on these is dropping, do they explode every 6 seconds or something!?

It's painful to see the prices dropping.

They are amazing cars and I love mine.

Moving house soon, considering getting a new car for the commute which will be 90% dual carriageway. A Vauxhall Omega seems like a good bet, I've always liked them. Comfortable, nice engines, good looking. Not sure what they're like to drive but I would expect them to be pretty good for what they are.

Mind you, the stuff dreams of made of today is...

It would only sounds like a spitfire if you were deaf. Have you heard a merlin at working rpm and (say) 30" manifold pressure?

Cheers

One for the misbadging cars thread. Someone's put a three pointed star on a Land Rover.

I can't believe how much 997's have come down since I was looking at 911's a year ago. This is less than £25k!

If/when we need something with rear seats these are the only things that may get me out of my Elise...

I do fancy a Coupe at somepoint, great value even at the moment. Great reliability bar a few niggles.

DON'T Ruin it and put CSL's on it though those BBS 5 spokes look terrific IMO.

Freudian iPhone mistype or a joke? hehe

It's a useful video. Thanks for the pointer. Still, I'll wait til I get the cash together and then try a test drive. The important thing to me is whether it's significantly different to punt the thing around B roads than an Octavia vRS... and I think that's something no one can tell me. I'll have to suss that bit out for myself. (Unless anyone else has driven both?)
