Love that. Those pop-out rear windows are rare aren't they? The Hippach opening rear windows are worth a fair few quid, the replacement seals alone can sell for £100 so a complete kit in good condition can go for in excess of £250-500 depending on the colour of the glass. Some kits are electric to which is even rarer!!
Oh an the wheels , the last set of E50s I saw for sale were $3000

Cars sitting low is a relatively modern thing within hot rodding. Look at the more traditional builds and you'll find they don't sit low. Even those that do have been designed & built to still ride well - don't confuse a fully built chassis with throwing a set of lowering springs at a modern hatchback.
Don't confuse a car designed to run air ride and be sitting on the floor with one either! I was under the impression low was always there, right back to when it all started, maybe not to the extreme it is now, but definitely what would have been considered stupid low in the day. I mean 10 years ago a car sitting with 3" of clearance was considered far too low and undriveable, but now that's very common. All part of how things progress and change.
Yes removing as much as possible to make things clean and almost unrecognisable from factory is something the current car culture is moving away from, in favour of making things look so factory you might miss a lot of it.

Great vid, great car. Thanks for posting stephen300o said:
It being a scene is new, there have been low cars for years, I remember Cadzilla being on my bedroom wall.
For the unaware, cadzila is a '48 Cadillac, built by Boyd Coddington ~20 years ago. Its owned by Billy Gibbons who owns more than a few hot rods..To be totally honest? not really my thing but the metalwork is top notch stuff.

I was having a think about this and both of your posts, low cars actually it probably goes back further than I first asserted - I was thinking about sleds and the original lowrider scene (before hydraulics) and back even further certainly they would lower salt flats racers. So yeah maybe you guys are right. If there's a type of car that i really despise, it's American Hot-Rod's. They just have no redeeming features or functions beyond pure posing to my eyes.
This one's been decently modified by that tree. They all should be introduced to it.
Pretty pathetic to be honest. Do tell me, what redeeming features/functions do modern modified cars have ? The fact that they're all modified with the exact same bolt on tat and/or bolt on engine mods ? Do their owners go to all the shows and never indulge in a bit of posing, desperately trying to look different whilst actually being the same as everyone else ? This one's been decently modified by that tree. They all should be introduced to it.
Or maybe buy some sports car, because no-one ever poses in those, right ?
Or buy some "supercar" that rarely sees the outside of the garage because you're too scared of a stonechip or depreciation?
The modern stuff you see on this thread are the exceptions, the vast majority of pictures I've posted are just regular hot rods, some are built at home, in a shed. Thats actually built by the way, not just bolting on bits - cutting stock steel and welding it up to make a chassis, mocking up an engine and actually making it fit, cutting the roof off to do a chop, sanding a car for dozens of hours to get it straight...
One of the great things about the hot rod scene is the sheer variety - hundreds of different cars, thousands of different configurations to run (axles, driveline, engine, suspension etc) and so many different visual styles.
You seem to fall in to the trap of "those old american cars and slow and don't handle" - the latter? see my last post. As far as go ?

Car in the near lane runs pump gas, is road legal and gets used on the road too, the bloke built it at home.
Anyway, more pics of cars with "no redeeming features"

The car above won the Ridler award about 11 years ago. The Ridler award is about innovation and excellence in execution. I saw a program quite a few years ago now where this car and the ridler winner from the following year were being driven 1000 miles to a show across country. Its a driver !
