is that andy waites old shell in the background?
No, the mk1 in the background is this:Forge built it from a bare shell, the shell came from a mate of mine and was very much a standard mk1 that had been neglected for a few too many years!
Have we had this yet? By no means as modified nor as valuable as a lot of the cars in this topic but it's a nice balance of modern performance/ classic looks without being too OTT.
that has this - A VR6 turbo
and a Syncro conversion to deal with the power.
^^^^ I've seen that Saab Hotrod being abused around Castle Combe - it looks like sooooooo much fun!!!!! No question the owner can drive the thing well, it looks rather bonkers when its going sideways into Camp corner and not straightened up until Folly!
If you consider VW were running Golf Rallye Rally cars (seems odd typing Rallye Rally) with 280hp an over 300ft torque the general view is the standard set up is good for 250-300hp.
With an uprated pinion shaft support, upgraded bolts/fastenings and a LSD the rear can take 350-400 pounds torque depending on how aggressively it is created which is more critical than the overall HP figure.

I love the notion of Synchro being able to "deal" with the power output of a turbocharged VR6. Isn't it pretty famous for crapping itself at relatively mild power outputs?
There are different specs of Syncro system, the set up you get on the m2 golf 1.8 carb cars is not as tough as the set up in the standard Rallye, Golf Limited or European market VR6 Syncros. The differences lie in the driveshafts, the internal gearing & angle drive components and transfer box construction. I can see it's stripped inside, any other info? Wheel/tyre combo looks awkward
Unfortunately its mostly aesthetic modifications (purchased like so), apart from the very mild performance gain of less weight. Plan is to change original engine for the 150bhp Renault F7r from the Clio Williams. I'm posting as I wonder if the older generation would look down on it as, for lack of better term, 'chavved up' old Volvo or in the same manor as retro Escorts without the pedigree.
