That is a very nice car, and the mods have all been done tastefully and with quality alfa-specific parts

In a slightly similar vein:

This particular car was a low spec GT, and wasnt in the best of nick, but someone threw a 2 litre in it, lowered it and painted it flat black. It was never going to be a factory clean car anyway, and i very much dig it, its is a nice raw weekend toy like this

Its been dubbed the OMGWTF and has been passed down a few times in the dutch alfa community from what i know, not sure where it is now.

That looks fking terrible IMHO!! The 2 litre conversion is standard practice (I have one) but most people don't then feel the need to add on some crap arches, crap bumpers, crap lights, grille etc etc. Unless I'm really missing something super internally they should be shot for doing that, no excuse

Maybe the arches were rusted out, so more affordable replacements were welded in.

Maybe the paint was fked, so a cheap rattle-can respray was done.

Maybe a lot of the brightwork was missing and a replacement grille was expensive, so they made best with some budget materials.

Maybe it was cheap project that would have otherwise been consigned to the scrapheap, and the owner didn't have much of a budget to play with.

Personally I think it's just fine, although could do with being an inch or so lower.

It might not be perfect but at least it is out and about being used. Not everyone has £80k to get other people to build a dream concours car, which is never used properly anyway.

I run mine on a shoestring and there isn't much of it that isn't rusted and crusty. I don't think budgets are an excuse for that, its just bad taste. However, each to their own and as said, at least its being used.

Fair enough, AFAIK it was a 1300 to start with and in poor state, so pretty much a budget project, and looks wise, i like it for what it is, it doesnt pretend to be a concourse state car, just a fun little thing to play with and not be too worried about.

It changed owners quite a few times within the dutch alfa club, for relatively cheap as well, and each owner enjoyed it, fetled it a bit further, then passed it on.

Fuchs have no place on a late Beetle.

Not even if it has a good excuse?

Too much of a styling clash. The more stubby, rounded look of the late Beetle just don't work as well with the 'classic' wheel choices.

Late Beetles work better with the 'German-look' when they are more race-car inspired and run late-model Porsche wheels and the like.

An inch higher would do for me.
