I'd like to ask a daft question. Why will a newspaper from the day he got the car be any better proof than the logbook and other paperwork? Am I missing something?
Its not for proof he owns it, its for proof that he took ownership of it on that date.

Although why that is so important is lost on me, surely it will say it on the V5.

(just re-read your question, we may be asking the same thing!)

I can't remember the full story about the significance of the Sun newspaper but I think it was to do with the date he bought it and it not being registered.

I'll have to have another look at the thread again.

One of my new Fords had rust around the door hinges within six months. Not sure what I could have done to avoid that. Maybe jiz some carnuba wax all over it and keep it in the lounge. That wasn't very practical though. I'll leave that to the likes of the Bonkers collection hehe

Looking at that just makes me sad.
I firmly believe cars are to be used, not sealed up in a garage for their entire existence.

Ooh really? Not good. Well, never had that on my Fiestas. All I can say is when I washed them, I washed all the insides of the door shuts, and polished all the exposed metal too - then sprayed GT85 into the hinges and all down that door pillar where the hinges are.

What new Ford was it mate?

I've had new Fords every 2 or 3 years for the past 22 years, none of them have had rust when I've got rid of them.

I had 2nd hand Fords for 10 years previous too that, MK2 Escort had a rusty front valance and sills, also had a MK5 Cortina that had scabs on the door bottoms but nothing major.

maybe I'm just lucky.

Malcolm C Elder (http://www.vintageandclassiccars.co.uk/) had a Volvo 262C in stock for years and years. I used to avidly check their ad in C&SC every month just to see if it had sold...it finally did, just as I had enough to buy it myself. Would still love one, hideous but BERTONE!

Pater Jarvis has had this Bentley in the Classic mag classifieds for at least five years:

1956 Bentley by Hooper

It does have an awful colour scheme, though.

yikes Blimey, that's a long time for a mainstream model - are you SURE it's the same car, not similar ones?

There's one I see in Classic Car type mags - I think the dealer is 'School Garage' or something?

Anyway he's had a silver Ferrari 308 GT4 for sale in his ads for easily 6 years - still up for the same price as when I first saw it - £18,500.

It's described with phrases like 'rarely do you see them like this' and 'the nicest one we have ever seen.'

I would add 'rarely do you see them for such an unrealistic, stratospheric price in such an unloved, unpopular colour' biggrin
Would that be the Mondial 8 he's had for almost a decade? . . . . . over priced by £10k!

When I saw this thread the first thing I thought of was Motorhouse in Killinghall!!!! I remember he had a MASSIVELY overpriced green BMW 316 coupe for at least two years, it wouldn't surprise me if the Audi really had been there that long..... He never seems to shift much, god knows how he's been there so long!
My mouth was wide open reading that - that was my first thought too!

In 2008 I posted this thread about a car at that garage!

ETA: It was an orange Clio 182 if that rings any bells - it stood out to me on the forecourt for a long time.

If it's not registered as I believe from reading the thread is the case he won't have a V5/V5C. However as the form states possessing a V5 is not proof of ownership.

Except it never really was £10,999 though wink
It was, they only dropped it when in March, presumably due to new reg.

And yes clearly I chopped it in during 2011, not 2012, sorry for the typo.

rock cars just outside of nuneaton have had a poo brown mercedes 300ce for sale for over 8 years now.think its still up at the same price of £6999 even now.i'd imagine having having a car stood for so long would need a full recommission costing hundereds if not thousands, thats if the floor pan hasnt become a distant memory.

I was vaguely interested in very nice dark green late 90s Merc SL500 that was on sale in a garage in Paisley about 4 years ago. I would log on every now and then to check it out over a period of about 2 years but never really got round to doing anything about it. Strangely enough, a new job with a significant pay rise and no need to commute prompted me to enquire further and I phoned only to be told it had been sold the previous week. I was a bit gutted at the time but on reflection it probably saved me a lot of expensive heartache...

When I began looking for a 335i in March last year a BMW dealer in Bournemouth had the most apalling spec 335i Coupe I've ever seen - a 2008/08 with 40k miles, cloth seats, no nav and the only option being a towbar. It was £26995. At the same time, high spec 08 plate cars from other dealers were at around £22-24k. I bought a 58 for less.

It finally vanished off the BMW AUC site in DECEMBER - last advertised price £14995 with a 'Free leather interior and portable satnav'.

I'd imagine anyone offering even £20k for it over the Summer would have been laughed out of the showroom.

Had to see if these guys were still around - often used to chuckle at seeing an advert for them in the paper when I was up in Portsmouth.

http://www.daron.co.uk/used_ford_for_sale.htm

Check out some of the used prices! £11k for a 2 year old Fusion, nice. 7 year old Mondeo £6k, even an 02 plate Mondeo for £3695..
